Are you quite sure though? As I recall, the other chap was not convinced that he was running the universe either....But I am not in charge of the universe.

When I was living in Staffordshire I noticed a company (that specialised in that) called "Shufflebottom".Potters make toilets for others, not themselves.
I did give a serious answer to the point, but it seems that Rusty has chosen to ignore it.My esteemed colleague, Mojo, was engaging in a peculiar British trait called humour, by quoting a, to many of us, well known line from The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
It is a section in which the protagonists finally discover who is running the universe: a man in a shed, who feeds his cat and tries to do his best by said feline.
In many ways my life is a minor variation of this, as this post was interrupted by my small white and black cat demanding to be fed...But I am not in charge of the universe.
It's a really good strategy when you don't have any good answers.I did give a serious answer to the point, but it seems that Rusty has chosen to ignore it.
Well, it's an omniscient being pretending not to know things, isn't it?Seems stupid to wait till people's lives are over before giving them feedback on their performance. Almost like it was all just pretend.
Whilst the word in biblical hebrew can mean snake or serpent it's pretty much always means snake, no reason to suppose it is different in the start of Genesis. So it's not a serpent in Genesis it's a common garden snake, albeit with the power of speech and knowledge of god's creation but hey lets just go with it it eh, wow these herbs are really great, I've got the munchies, oh there's an apple tree....IIRC, the 'serpent' was not turned into what we now know as a snake till afterwards, as a punishment. When doing the initial tempting, he was... something else? Presumably humanish, because other animals were not credited as chatty?
Ya ok, but I meant it was not a slithery snake till afterwards, as punishment. A reading from the Book of Genesis:Whilst the word in biblical hebrew can mean snake or serpent it's pretty much always means snake, no reason to suppose it is different in the start of Genesis. So it's not a serpent in Genesis it's a common garden snake, albeit with the power of speech and knowledge of god's creation but hey lets just go with it it eh, wow these herbs are really great, I've got the munchies, oh there's an apple tree....
And that's where evolution stopped for some unknown reason?I would say that millions of years of evolution by natural selection created the original humans.
Remember,Ya ok, but I meant it was not a slithery snake till afterwards, as punishment. A reading from the Book of Genesis:
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15
And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring[a] and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel
Less clear than I remembered, but it sounds like the serpent was not "crawling on his belly" till afterward, meaning he was upright prior?
Whatever makes you imagine evolution has stopped? And that's where evolution stopped for some unknown reason?
Of course not. What on earth makes you think that? And that's where evolution stopped for some unknown reason?
And that's where evolution stopped for some unknown reason?

Agree.Less clear than I remembered, but it sounds like the serpent was not "crawling on his belly" till afterward, meaning he was upright prior?
Sorry if I wasn't clear I was referring to this "Agreed, there is much in Chrisianity that is moving and insightful and solid grounds for a good way of living your life." What's unique in Christianity in that regard? And if it isn't unique to Christianity why should we look to a religion that thinks raping women is a punishment for something their husband did, that a woman who is deemed not to be a virgin on her wedding night should be stoned to death and genocide is fine, and slavery is fine and it goes on and on, you can't ignore all the crap that comes with some bit of good you may find in the teachings and just pick the bits you like - that's what a Christian does!Such as... what? To which part of what post are you referring?
Why?Agree.
Going on his belly was a consequence. (punishment)
Has humankind evolved since Adam?Whatever makes you imagine evolution has stopped?
Nope. The world shows absolutely zero evidence of divine intervention. Not a scrap. If you follow the evidence, no Gods appear to exist.
If one or more divinities turn out to exist but are really good at hiding, they don't get to be cross that we couldn't find them.
Also, if you think belief is a choice, I invite you to choose to believe in, say, the ancient Greek pantheon or the Norse gods for a day. Let us know if you succeed.
