They tend to punch down which puts off a lot of people and they tend to insist they are funny and it's the audiences fault they don't find it funny. The latter means they don't learn to hone their craft. For an insight into the latter I enjoyed Dara O'Briain's book Tickling the English.

According to Wikipedia, he was also one of the hosts of Red Eye, a 3 am panel talk show on Fox News. I only know about it because they used to post episodes on YouTube, which included one in which they discussed, i.e. mocked, members of the Real Life Superhero Movement. It's gone now, possibly because the comments were universally things like "Wow, you guys are a bunch of ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊" or "A lot of RLSH work to help the homeless; of course you people hate them".

I'll be very surprised if anyone recognises the source of that one, it's pretty obscure.
