Ed Israel/US Attacks Iran /Yet Another Country/Iran

DURBIN: Could you explain to the American people why with the vast investment we've made in national defense and military, how Iran after they are attacked by us is still capable of stopping the traffic in the Strait of Hormuz?

CAINE: It's a complex situation

DURBIN: As we talk about trillion dollar plus budgets for our military, it appears a very small budget is holding us hostage in the Strait of Hormuz

Coons: My concern is that you’ve achieved a series of tactical victories but you are on the verge of a strategic loss.

Hegseth: I think it’s so foolish. We’re 74 days in and you’re talking about a strategic loss?!?!?

Here we are 74 days in and the people you blew to kingdom come in week 1 are still holding you off.
Telling us over and again how you could swat them like a fly is beginning to sound a bit hollow.

You guys are an empirical proof of Occam's Razor.

On the one hand, there is the one, simple explanation for why Trump attacked Iran. It's the reason he says he did it: Iran is a country run by a fanatical, apocalyptic, Jihadist death cult, who, while chanting "Death to America," have enriched 440 kg of uranium to just short of nuclear weapons grade. And by the way, they are quickly building a bulwark of missiles that would soon become an impenetrable conventional shield for their nuclear project.

On the other hand, there are an infinite number of more-complex theories that posit, in place of the straightforward one, some ulterior motive or other: Trump did it to distract from Epstein, or to placate the hawkish wing of his base, or to manipulate the stock market, and on and on ad nauseam.

There is no compelling reason to prefer one of these ulterior-motive theories over the others. Therefore, according to Occam's Razor, it is correct to prefer the simpler, more-straightforward theory.
Well, my theory is that he went to war with Iran because he completely screwed up the policy of his previous administration.

As I said before, he could have used the JCPOA as leverage for more negotiations and as a way to drive a harder bargain if he had wanted to. He was supposed to be the “anti-war” president, remember? He mocked Obama during the latter’s presidency saying that Obama will probably get the US into a war with Iran because Obama doesn’t know how to negotiate.

So when Trump gets elected, what does he do? He withdraws from the JCPOA and Iran starts processing uranium to way above where they were in the first place. In other words, this set the course for the US to go to war with Iran because, guess what…. Donald “Art of the Deal” Trump doesn’t know how to negotiate.

All his fanbois, like you, cannot believe that he would intentionally drive the whole process into such an obvious ditch, so you have to believe that he is always playing 7D chess. On the surface, sure, it only looks like policy is being driven by a venal and stupid, incontinent and incompetent retarded and senile megalomaniac who is clearly profiteering from the presidency bringing all the ethics of statesmanship to his role in a way that would make Idi Amin blush with embarrassment, but pointing it out is like the boy in the emperors new clothes pointing out that the king is naked if that morality tale had ended up with the child being declared afflicted with Emperor Derangement Syndrome.

The Ockham’s Razor is that Trump is a seriously incompetent moron who has no clue what he is doing, and yet a legion of fanbois who don’t want to admit it. He created a mess of his own making and keeps trying to fool people like you that he knows what he is doing. Fortunately, they will argue to the day they die that he is right.

Oh, and I think it is worth mentioning that while you are now LOLing at everyone who doesn’t know that this is obviously about ending the nuclear programme, you were previously and confidently asserting a different goal and assuring that there would be a different strategy…

Disagree. Goal is full-scale regime change. We will bomb the IRGC relentlessly.

So what happened to that goal?

Look. This is a comedy piece that is funny because it uses the same logic as Trump fans. Trump’s undermining of NATO and unforgivable abandonment of Ukraine are often held up as “totally smart 4D chess play”. Trump fans often claim that the Iran war is actually about China, etc… all manner of absurd and stupid Rube-Goldberg thinking, so don’t pretend that it is his critics who fail to see the obvious.

But if you want to play that game, Jeff Maurer’s claiming that it was the environmentalists who are the master manipulators:

In 2024, left wing activists were a better friend to Trump than Jeffrey Epstein ever was. They savaged Harris on social media. They harassed Democrats at public events. They pressured Democrats to take unpopular positions, and when they succeeded, they simply asked for the next thing and accused Democrats of genocide. They did more to elect Trump than Fox News and Joe Biden’s dementia combined, which only makes sense if: 1) They’re idiots, or 2) This move was the masterstroke in their 4D chess strategy.

Phase 3: Watch Trump fall back-asswards into a global energy crisis, thus creating the biggest win for green energy in history
Long-term Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz now looks like a real possibility. Iran continues to threaten refining capacity throughout the Middle East. Oil prices have already spiked, and they’re poised to go higher if the situation isn’t resolved.

This is the game-changer that people who worry about climate change dared not even dream about. Trump may have bungled his way into higher energy prices worldwide — the Iran War is functionally a global carbon tax. Soon, people will ask themselves “Should I wait for Trump to fix this, or start looking into less-energy-intense solutions?” And “wait for Trump to fix this” is clearly a position for suckers and losers who subconsciously want to fail.

Massive bombshell. Rep. Ed Case explicitly confirms the Pentagon has lost a staggering 39 aircraft in the disastrous war against Iran, exposing the unprecedented destruction of American military assets.

Pentagon CFO Jay Hurst desperately dodges the huge replacement costs.

That's not a bombshell, that number has been public for more than a month. Here's a breakdown by type:

Some of them won't be replaced, because they don't need to be. For example, we lost one A10. That won't be replaced, because the A10 is heading towards retirement soon anyways, and more than 40 years beyond the last production. The majority of the losses are MQ-9 reapers (24 of the 39), and those are also scheduled to be retired within the next 10 years, so they might not be replaced either. These losses don't cost nothing, but it's not accurate to just add up their production costs to get the total either. Even with aircraft that are replaced ( and again, not all of them will be), the effective cost is something less than the cost of the replacement, because the replacement is new (and thus has a longer remaining service life and less maintenance required) and the lost aircraft probably wasn't.

No. The simplist explanation is that Trump recognized the importance of preventing Iran from getting a nuclear bomb, and he acted took action to prevent it.

:dl:

How's that going?

With posts like that, I reckon you could ask the Zionazis for a share of the extra half a billion pieces of silver they just set aside for propaganda.

TREASON

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
When the Fake News says that the Iranian enemy is doing well, Militarily, against us, it's virtual TREASON in that it is such a false, and even preposterous, statement. They are aiding and abetting the enemy! All it does is give Iran false hope when none should exist. These are American cowards that are rooting against our Country. Iran had 159 ships in their Navy - Every single ship is now resting at the bottom of the sea. They have no Navy, their Air Force is gone, all Technology is gone, their "leaders" are no longer with us, and the Country is an Economic Disaster. Only Losers, Ingrates, and Fools are able to make a case against America! President DONALD J. TRUMP

He forgot to add "And shipping is freely travelling though Hormuz once again".

You know,Just because Iran is on odds with Trump, does not make then the good guys. Dons't kid yourself, Iran has it;s own ambitions to dominate the mid east.
I fail to see why my post from a thread about Hitler’s reincarnation is relevant?

The Israeli government coalition has always been extremely fragile, and it might be coming to an end.
The role of the Ultra-Orthodox in Israeli politics has always been divisive, as they are generally opposed to Zionism and many even to the existence of a State of Israel itself before the Coming of the Messiah. To appease them, Israel has given them a lot of power, funds and space, and they have taken it and become a very large faction; a faction with the highest birth rates; a faction that refuses to serve in the IDF.

Netanyahu is going back on his promise to except the Ultra-Orthodox from IDF service because there are just not enough bodies to occupy all the new territory and the other Israeli are questioning why they should support a group with taxpayer money that isn't contributing to the defence of the country.

Israeli politics are going to get a lot messier, even if that's hard to imagine.

He has a theory about a conspiracy. Ergo, it's a conspiracy theory.

He was denying it was a conspiracy because the administration was so transparent in its motives. Don't think I agree with that, but if somebody claims an action isn't a conspiracy, just saying "yes it was" is not the response of an adult.

I can when there's no evidence for that theory.

He cites market manipulation that was suspiciously coincidental. It might not be strong evidence but it is something that is not refuted by saying "there is no evidence".

You don't seem to understand Occam's razor. The most common version is something like "do not multiply entities beyond necessity". Basically, you should prefer the simpler explanation but not if the simpler explanation doesn't account for all the facts.

If all Tr*mp wanted to do was stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, he had many options other than destabilising the Middle East with a war he isn't going to win. Your explanation doesn't account for all the facts, therefore we can't justify it with Occam's razor.

Oh, I'm sure he had multiple motives. People usually do. That doesn't mean stopping them from developing nuclear weapons wasn't the primary motive.

And I'm not sure why you're so sure he can't win. Iran is about to permanently lose much of its oil production capacity. It's very hard to run a nuclear weapons program on a shoestring budget, as Saddam found out.
