How did that democratic socialist bloke go in the NY election?
You mean the guy running in a city in one of the "bluest" states in the U.S., against an opponent who had significant allegations against him involving sexual harassment?

I don't think that particular election tells you as much about how politics in the entire US will go as you think it does.

Ironically, the 2016 election shows that you were wrong.

Lets go back to the 2016 election? Trump was actually seen as the "moderate" candidate, and Clinton was seen as the more "extreme/leftist". That may sound weird, now that we have seen him fully embrace fascism, but back then? He was the republican who held up a rainbow flag at a rally (i.e. support for LGBTQ rights). He talked about "providing health care" and "fixing the tax system". He made promises that were often vague or contradictory, but it caused people to see him as "centrist". Now WE might have seen through his B.S., but most voters didn't.

So in 2 of the last 3 elections, the candidate seen as "more moderate" actually won.

Completely and utterly and totally wrong. Clinton's problem among the Democratic party base wasn't that she was left wing or extremist (on most issues during the campaign TACO was stumping to the left of her), but that she was the continuity and corporatist candidate.

Her late and fairly minute swing to the left was nearly enough to make her lead unassailable.

Donald wants results thrown out and a do-over before there's even been an election.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
We cannot allow there to be an Election that is conducted unconstitutionally simply for the "convenience" of State Legislatures. If they have to vote twice, so be it. We should demand that State Legislatures do what the Supreme Court says must be done. That is more important than administrative convenience. The byproduct is that the Republicans will receive more than 20 House Seats in the upcoming Midterms! President DONALD J. TRUMP

That says more about the intelligence of the average voter and the crappy job the Democrats did with messaging and the media did with reporting.

You mean the guy running in a city in one of the "bluest" states in the U.S., against an opponent who had significant allegations against him involving sexual harassment?
You mean the home to Wall Street? The City that elected Rudy Giuliani and Eric Adams mayor?
I don't think that particular election tells you as much about how politics in the entire US will go as you think it does.
Because no other part of the country worries about cost of living? Or quality schools? Or transportation? Or housing? Or healthcare?

What if places like New York weren't all that "different" but rather ahead of the curve on these issues?

Rep. Buddy Carter calls for Georgia officials to toss out already cast votes: "We need to suspend the House races and go ahead and redistrict so that Georgians would be represented in the next two years by people who represent their values. Georgia is a Republican state. We need to remember that."

Yes, people who saw trump as "moderate" were fools. But that's the environment the democrats have to function in.

Sitting there and saying "its obvious our policies are better, people will vote for us" sounds like a recipe for disaster.
...and the crappy job the Democrats did with messaging and the media did with reporting.
Ah, the whole 'messaging' thing. What exactly does that mean?

You mean the guy running in a city in one of the "bluest" states in the U.S., against an opponent who had significant allegations against him involving sexual harassment?
You mean the home to Wall Street?
Yes they are the home to Wall Street. They also have a large number of low-income wage slaves. They also have a lot of minorities, recent immigrants, and LGBTQ voters, all of whom may support the democrats over social rather than financial issues.
The City that elected Rudy Giuliani
Discount Nosferatu was over 2 decades ago. The political landscape has changed since then.
and Eric Adams mayor?
According to his wikipedia page, in his mayoral campaign he wanted tax credits for low income families and improved schooling. Sounds like he was appealing to a left-leaning electorate.

I am sure voters everywhere care about those things. The problem is getting voters to vote according to their best interest.
What if places like New York weren't all that "different" but rather ahead of the curve on these issues?
Wonderful idea to think about. But if the rest of the country does not "catch up" to New York in time for the next election, you will find the democrats on the outside of power again.

So another term of republican rule while the "anti-establishment" democrats sit there bemoaning why voters in backwater hillbilly-land are not supporting their plans to make their lives better.

So we're back to making excuses as to why we have to nominate\elect more moderates rather than actual progressives?

Cool, hopefully we get a ton of moderates that are afraid of calling out the Republicans, try to appeal to "moderate" Republicans and put up "moderate" bills that get nothing done vs. electing actual thirsty progressive that want to get real change.

Who ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ cares about getting the House and the Senate back if we're just going to do the same milquetoast, hand wringing, stupidity that got us here in the first place.

Or another term of Republican lite that has no real change? Just moderate, feel-good policies that change nothing?

What was the last moderate policy change\law, etc. that we've seen that actually meant something? Anything in the last 5 years? 10?

Do you see how putting those statements back to back might be a little confusing?

They in fact do not all do that.

He was immediately followed by a billionaire, followed by an aesthetic progressive, followed by a cop

According to all the commercials and media coverage I had to watch, he ran on the crime wave hysteria

tell them it will hurt black people. It obviously won't, just tell them it will.

So, same old same old

"We'll give all the socialism to you and none to the black people!" There, election won. FDR got 4 terms with that. The only difference is, the Dems don't have to do it this time.

This seems like a pretty blatant example of the idea I've seen expressed that the GOP survives by setting up districts so their representatives can choose their voters rather than the voters choosing their representatives. If Georgia was so overwhelmingly a Republican state that the GOP can claim it as sort of a personal possession, any districting at all would show that- why do you need to change the rules to exclude Democrats there who are, after all, just as much citizens of Georgia (and the US) as Republicans are, and just as deserving of representation that reflects their political ideals and values?

Look, I get it. A lot of us are demoralized watching RINOs and Chamber of Commerce types run for office. They talk tough but sell us out for cheap labor and open borders every single time.

But here’s the brutal truth: sitting home or splitting votes isn’t an option.

This midterm, we vote the RINOs out and replace them with people of real substance — fighters who actually stop immigration .

If we don’t act and Democrats regain power, they will flood us with forty million more illegal aliens, which they will then legalize. Then the country is lost forever.

This is the hill.

Stand.

Vote like your future depends on it.

Because it does
