Bump!
Because I've been seeing speculation on other threads that Trump would cancel the elections. Ain't gonna happen. Why?
Simple. Authoritarian dictatorships, other than military ones, always have elections.
The Soviet Union had elections. Nazi Germany had elections. Heck, Nicolas Maduro was recently re-elected.
They just don't have legitimate elections. That's where we're headed.
What we'll see this fall is the Republican playbook we've had for some time, plus a little more.
More gerrymandering. More voter suppression, possibly including ICE thugs at polling places in districts they don't like.
There will be many, many, claims of fraud. There will be lawsuits, some of which may find friendly judges. Even if they don't, they'll contribute to FUD.
Republican legislatures will be encouraged to decertify elections. House Republicans will likely refuse to seat Dem winners of close races, especially if there's an active lawsuit, even if in appeals. The Senate will be trickier, but the R's will prevail somehow.
Actually arresting Democrat candidates and even sitting legislators will probably wait until 2028.
So if a Democrat manages to get into power and suspends elections "until we can stop the madness", that would be a good thing, in your view. Not authoritarian or anti-democratic at all for you.

What's happening with redistricting is that current Repulicans in places like Ohio don't want changes. They might take land from your district to build a new republican dustrict. But you then get some people that are more likely democrats, added to you from a suburban section. You could lose your previously safe district.

New California redistricting map passes Supreme Court.
Supreme Court allows California to use new congressional map, giving Democrats a boost

The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed to California to use a new congressional map that voters approved, delivering a major victory for Democrats ahead of this year’s midterm elections.

The decision came down in a one-sentence order that provided no explanation or dissents. Republicans had asked the high court to block the district lines, alleging they were racially gerrymandered.

The map, drawn by Democratic lawmakers and passed by voters last November through the Proposition 50 ballot measure, gives the party an opportunity to pick up as many as five House seats as they seek to win a majority in the chamber this fall.

Serious question: Now that Trump is openly calling for Federal (meaning his) control of elections, are ANY Republicans, especially in Congress, pushing back on it? I haven't seen any, let me know if you have.
John Thune has...gently at least.

Thing about redristicting is it often has unexpected consequences. A number of the new GOP districts are light, not deep red, and the GOP candidate might have to steer closer to the center then he is used to.

You have not been looking too hard. Thune has said he is opposed to the idea, and he is one of the most powerful GOPers in the Senate.
