Trump's promised ICE raids have begun

Its frustrating because I've seen them make reasonable arguments and discussions (such as in the Ukraine invasion thread), but then every now and then some edgelord takes control of his account, or he gets drunk and we get ridiculous "hot takes" like this.
He's been pretty much permanently in edgelord mode since TACO got nominated for the 2024 election.

I have been wondering on what the actual breakdown of current ICE trainees pans out.
How many of die hard MAGAs that couldn't hack it as actual police?
How many are career criminals and or gang members looking to use this as cover to removal rivals?
How many are left leaning and joined to gather dirt or resist from within?
I reckon about 20% MS13, 20% Tren de Aragua, 30% KKK and the rest made up of those so psychopathic that even US police forces have rejected them.

Federal Immunity

Homeland Security
@DHSgov
REMINDER. “To all ICE officers: You have federal immunity in the conduct of your duties. Anybody who lays a hand on you or tries to stop you or tries to obstruct you is committing a felony. You have immunity to perform your duties, and no one—no city official, no state official, no illegal alien, no leftist agitator or domestic insurrectionist—can prevent you from fulfilling your legal obligations and duties. The Department of Justice has made clear that if officials cross that line into obstruction, into criminal conspiracy against the United States or against ICE officers, then they will face justice.”

Department of State
@StateDept
@POTUS: "No country can afford to take in millions of people, pay for their education, their health care, their hospitals ... Many of those people are murderers ... Starting February 1, we're not making any payments to sanctuary cities ... because they do everything possible to protect criminals at the expense of American citizens."

Elite with a flawless track record.

Stephen Miller
@StephenM
ICE has a flawless track record of deporting non-citizens. One of the biggest and most dishonest (and dangerous) media hoaxes concerns ICE arresting citizens. ICE, an elite federal law enforcement agency, will arrest those (regardless of immigration status) who are criminally obstructing or impeding a law enforcement operation, assaulting officers, harboring illegal aliens, etc. — all felony crimes. These individuals are being arrested by DHS for *criminal prosecution* by the Department of Justice.

ICE also has an entire division, HSI (Homeland Security Investigations) whose special agents all have the same criminal investigative authorities as the FBI. On any given day, HSI is making arrests for sex trafficking, labor trafficking, kidnapping, counterfeiting, financial fraud, terrorism and all other threats to the US Homeland.

Rep. Dan Goldman
@RepDanGoldman
This morning, ICE denied me entry into their detention facility at 26 Federal Plaza for my weekly, unannounced oversight visit, citing @Sec_Noem’s "new" policy requiring 7 days’ notice.

...snip...
And how are you going to enforce that court ruling? It matters not one iota what a court says if its rulings can't be enforced.

It's their own fault.

JD Vance
@JDVance
This is an extremely important point: you're only seeing chaotic ICE raids in blue sanctuary cities where local officials are fighting against federal law enforcement.

The chaos is created by "leaders" who would rather promote rioting in their streets than follow the law

He was not arrested, he was swarmed, beaten to the ground, dragged into an unmarked vehicle by masked, beaten up and then dumped, bleeding in a parking lot 8 miles away.

There was no arrest, and no charges.

Homeland Security
@DHSgov
This individual was arrested for assaulting federal law enforcement officers under 18 U.S.C 111, assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal officers

The ICE deputy director interviewed in that clip above doesn't sound hostile or unwelcoming of inspections but of course he now has instructions from Noem which he needs a compelling reason to disobey. So this seems a bit performative, as a test or demonstration of how Noem's order defies the court. I suppose next time he'll turn up with a court order and then be admitted, since the ICE officials can show that to Noem.

Governors cannot arrest federal agents?
Google AI
Governors cannot broadly stop U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities because immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, and federal law generally supersedes state law under the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution. ICE agents are federal law enforcement officers authorized by Congress to enforce the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

Here is a breakdown of the legal framework and limitations:
Federal Authority: The U.S. Supreme Court has long held that the power to regulate immigration is exclusively a federal power. States cannot pass laws that directly conflict with or obstruct federal immigration enforcement efforts.

Federal Immunity: Federal agents are generally protected from state prosecution for actions that are "necessary and proper" for fulfilling their official duties, a principle established in an 1890 Supreme Court case.

Limits on State Action: A governor who actively blocked federal arrests or destroyed federal documents could face criminal charges for obstruction of justice.

Passing Laws: States can pass laws that make it harder for federal agents to operate by limiting the type of information shared with ICE (as long as it doesn't violate federal statutes requiring information sharing).

Legal Challenges: Governors and state attorneys general can file lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of specific ICE practices or federal executive orders, as has been done in states like Minnesota, California, and Illinois.

Prosecuting Unlawful Actions: If an ICE agent acts beyond the scope of their lawful federal duties or violates state criminal law (e.g., using excessive force not justified by policy or law), they are not immune from state prosecution.

In essence, the separation of powers means governors lack the direct legal authority to stop an entire federal agency's operations, even if they disagree with the agency's tactics or perceive them as "illegal". Challenges to the legality of specific ICE actions must generally be resolved through the federal court system.

The late Renee Good's former father-in-law -- a trump supporter -- doesn't blame the ICE agent for killing her.

Sharing his thoughts on Ross' decision to open fire, he said: "I’m not blaming anybody. I mean, the ICE agent, you know, at first I didn't see the footage where he was actually being rammed. I've seen the bumper of the car hitting his legs. And so in a flash like that, it's hard to say how you would react." British LADBible news site article link
