Merged Peace President invades Venezuela,/U.S. Forces Capture Maduro

Reporter: Do you envision the U.S. Military having a presence in Venezuela as the U.S. Runs that country?

Trump: We are going to have a presence in Venezuela as it pertains to oil. We are going to be taking out a tremendous amount of wealth out of the ground… It goes also to the US in the form of reimbursement for the damages caused us by that country

Why would anyone think it's about oil?

Reporter: China, Russia, and Iran have interests in Venezuela. How does this operation affect relationships with them?

Trump: China and Russia, Russia when we get things straightened out, but in terms of other countries that want oil, we are in the oil business. We will be selling oil

Establishing a military protectorate for the benefit of business. Congrats to the new emperor! I knew we were headed into fascism and imperialism but I didn't think we'd get them both at once. What a timesaving efficiency that is.

I wonder how long it'll be before that ballroom evolves into a throne room?
I for one welcome our new Imperial Protectors

I’m not sure how trading a dictator for an imperialist invader is an improvement for the Venezuelans who preferred to stay.
It might be, we don't know. Or for the cynical amongst us, it's going to get much much worse.

One thing I'll give Venezuela credit for is they didn't lock their people inside their borders, Soviet or North Korea style.

Maybe my understanding of U.S. foreign policy is simplistic, but it seems to me that our occupation of Iraq gave us ISIS and our occupation of Afghanistan gave us the Taliban. Maybe it's more important to let Venezuelans decide who should govern them and how their natural resources should be employed to their benefit.

US currently has no foreign policy. Other than the daily whims of Trump's fevered brain.

US Foreign Policy is invisible as long as a President is popular.
Only when polls start to look bad do Presidents look to fix other countries - fixing their own was never going to happen.

Venezuela is ruled by an illegitimate regime, but the Administration has not made the case that an urgent threat to America’s national security existed to justify the use of U.S. military force.

President Trump has made no secret of his intentions to effectively abolish the Congress, and that pattern continues today with his flagrant disregard for the Article One war powers of Congress which is essential to our constitutional system of checks and balances.

If the President grounds his actions on the basis of drug trafficking charges, it is entirely hypocritical in light of his recent pardon of former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández who was responsible for bringing more than 400 tons of cocaine in the United States in order to “shove the drugs right up the noses of the gringos.”

The Administration says Maduro will be tried for drug trafficking in a U.S. court — but Hernández was convicted of the same crime by an American jury and Trump pardoned him.

Congress must be fully and immediately briefed on the strikes and regime change in Venezuela, the objectives and extent of this operation, and how the Administration intends to prevent further regional fallout.
