Trump's Second Term

Did Biden build a wall to stop them getting in or something?
In May of this year, the USDA was stopping some cattle movement into the US because of concerns about screwworms coming back after an expensive and successful eradication program many decades ago. I'm not sure if those restrictions have been lifted. Either way not a war on cattle and not Biden.

It can't be said that The POSOTUS had anything to do with it, but it is indicative of his administration. As a former Marine Color Guard it pains me to see that, and I imagine the people responsible (especially if they are service members) will get chewed out royally.
I recently displayed items I'd made for the Marine Corps' 250th Birthday, and Veterans' Day. I put them both up on blocks so they wouldn't actually be touching the ground. (They originally had small Xmas lights in them, hence the holes.)

I'm a great foe of the kind of flag idolatry that some conservatives like, always having considered that the flag is a symbol and not a thing in itself. But I was also a Boy Scout and all that, and once upon a time one could fly a flag with some sense of propriety, and treat it with some sense of dignity, because it stood for something worth standing for.

I suppose in this day and age, looking at the behavior of our politicians and their instruments, ICE and Congress and all, it's no surprise that power trumps etiquette, but I miss the day when one could respect the flag and even fly it and maybe even salute it without being a dick about it.

Every day I see giant MAGA pickup trucks barrelling down the highway with tattered flags flapping from posts attached to their truck bed. I also am not a flag fetishist but it just seems odd that they would disrespect it so.

Immigrant cattle are causing the high beef prices.

It's difficult to choose when there is such a surfeit of stupid, but somehow this is what tipped me over the edge today; surely we are in an Onion universe? He cannot seriously be saying that? Not that I think for a moment that he himself believes what he is saying, but how on earth can he say it and expect anyone with even hint of oxygen flowing to the brain to believe it? Immigrant cattle are killing our cattle! Immigrant cattle are raping our cattle! Immigrant cattle are poisoning the blood of our cattle! Immigrant cattle are being freed from insane asylums in Nigeria and they're eating the Hannibals, they're eating the Lecters, they're eating the cannibals of the people who live here!

Thank you for your attention to this matter of immigrant cattle.

I mean, it's the same universe where they seriously believe protesters burned down whole cities and that Haitian immigrants are eating other peoples' pets.

I was thinking much the same thing, though with a different and less eloquent set of words.

I bootlessly await the day when someone in the press stops talking about the complexities of all those moving parts and the litter of peanuts when they unpack stuff, and says out loud what any sane person ought to when faced with this kind of thing, which is to call it what it is out loud. I don't think even NPR has the balls to call a lie a lie and not, at worst, an untruth. Once upon a time, Russell Baker quipped that Nixon had the courage to call a spade a manual excavation implement. The illness has become endemic.

The constitution says the senate must confirm the appointments.
They can’t get confirmed because they are so bad even Republican senators won’t vote for them.

Blanche on Halligan: Judges are stepping in and saying you can't be U.S. Attorney, that's not consistent with Article II of this constitution…. It is really at its basic level Trump derangement syndrome. The president has nominated phenomenal attorneys to be U.S. Attorneys and you have judges/senators who have said: no we're not even going to talk to them…

So now that Trump did a 180 and is fully on board with releasing the Epstein files, the question is, can he get away from all the info in them that implicates him?
It might be challenging, since there has to be more than a couple people also named in the files who can also incriminate Trump. Until now it has been mutually assured destruction. But they won't go down without a fight, especially if they have leverage to bring Trump down with them. And he can't get each hypothetical perp to commit suicide with bedsheets in a prison cell. So, presumably the strategy will be the usual delay as much as possible and muddy as much as possible, while spinning the delays and muddying as all being the fault of Biden and the Democrats.

since they opened a new investigation into the dems only, i’ve heard they can’t release the files of an active investigation. so he may feel more comfortable speaking about their contents knowing they can’t be seen.

that he’s already been implicated up to his eyeballs in the files they released, and looks to be ready to pardon maxwell and manipulate any investigation as much as he needs to, is also part of it imo. i also think he’s had enough time to scrub the files of his name as much as possible.

but the bright side is these people are very stupid and commit unforced errors all the time.

One would think a savvy member of the press might recognize an opportunity here in calling out this administration's gaslighting. It might be problematic in the short term as Trump and Leavitt et al would bark and spit and piss and moan, but in the long term they might make a name for themselves in the new media as a podcaster or some such. Surely, this current state of affairs can't last and some semblance of normalcy will emerge . . . or possibly not.

The entire press corpse keeping their heads down and waiting for normalcy to emerge is how we got here.

It's very possible the 180 is due to the scrubbing of whatever might be harmful to Trump. Also, as Dirtywick points out, they may try to deflect and delay releasing the files because of the investigation.

This. I think his post saying he would release "what they're entitled to" was highly indicative of his intentions.

Republicans control the files. They can hand over whatever they want to and
claim that's all of it.
True, but the highlighted might be problematic for them, cause there are plenty of people, including some from the Biden administration, who have seen the files. There might not have been enough to level criminal charges against Trump, but there still could be incriminating documents--for example, a photo of trump with naked young women might not be criminal per se, but would obviously hurt him if it were released. And in theory, it should be released, with the victims faces blotted out. If it is not released, those that saw the documents could go public with their knowledge since they could then say "the documents were supposed to be released" All speculation, but at this point that's all we can do.
