It is of course a bare-faced lie, and is easily seen as such, but there is a grain of truth in it, because the Maduro regime is a brutal dictatorship, and happily jails political opponents. Besides, many people flee Venezuela in order not to be forced into criminal networks, or in order to get out of the clutches of criminals, so obviously many of these would have been in jail in Venezuela, or were about to be put in jail.

One day, one of the interviewers needs to say they are from Stormfront, or Mein Kampf Press, or The Mongolian Yurt Decorator Monthly magazine. Start using obviously bogus names, each one more ridiculous than the last. See if he ever reacts.

It was also taught to him by Roy Cohn, and later reinforced by Roger Stone, as a tactic. Of course, that tactic could become so intertwined with the malignant narcissism as to become indistinguishable.

Was that "d--" going to be "Democrats"? He really does categorize all his enemies together and think they're all in league against him. When he gets cancer he's going to think they're Democrat cells.

He managed to stop himself, though. That suggests maybe it was a sufficiently glaring category error that a part of his brain managed to shut his mouth down. Might have been "donuts". Or "dormice".

Seriously though, yes you're right it was Democrats.
