General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

A Tory spokesperson said: "Last night Rachel Reeves said "she had not been made aware of the licensing requirement". Today, we find out that Reeves was alerted to the need for a licence in writing by the estate agents.

"Having been caught out, the Chancellor is now trying to make the estate agents take the blame, but Reeves never followed up with them to ensure that the licence had been applied for, or checked if the licence had been granted.

"Regardless, under the law, Reeves and her husband are responsible for ensuring the licence is granted. With more information coming to light every few hours, the Prime Minister needs to grow a backbone and start a proper investigation."

More than half of UK businesses are changing the way they approach ethical policies and practices because of the Trump administration’s criticism of the “woke” agenda, research suggests.

Interviews with 250 general counsels and chief legal officers at leading UK organisations found that they are reacting to the pushback against diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the US by reviewing – and in some cases scrapping – policies.

On behalf of what used to be my country, I sincerely apologize.

Is the apparent contradiction as simple as the fact that Reeves' husband was the one dealing with it, and didn't need to keep her informed of every detail, especially as the estate agent was supposedly taking care of it?

Everyone from BBC to GBNews seem to be keen on pressuring Reeves out.

It's the end for Starmer and Labour, there has to be an election now, the level of corruption is unprecedented.
Well given that it emerged a number of years ago that she had consistently lied abojt her career and probably stole from one of her employers over a period of time, Reeves should have not been in the cabinet in the first place.

She has form.

'The hypocrisy of it all'

Kevin Hollinrake, Chair of the Conservative Party, told #BBCBreakfast an investigation is still needed into Chancellor Rachel Reeves despite her estate agent apologising for an 'oversight' in the failure to obtain the correct licence for letting out her family home

On the various occasions Carrot Flower Queen and I have moved house, we have generally operated a division of labour (much like we do over everyday life), with each of us having areas of responsibility and not needing to provide the other with blow-by-blow accounts.

Seems like a sensible way to do things.

Reeves should be removed from office for breaking the law and committing a criminal offence.

Starmer's judgement is so bad.

With Reeves misleading him on her own affairs, what else is she hiding from him?

Perhaps the real state of the U.K. economy....

Evidence?

Look up her wikipedia entry it's all documented. The only reason why I say she "probably" stole from her former employer is because they dropped the investigation on her becoming an MP.
I looked it up. I didn't find that she has "stolen" anything. But she was part of a culture among managers that gave excessive gifts to each other, but apparently no "wrongdoing".

No, your allegations are not "documented". Minor CV padding at most and zero support for your (slanderous) assertion of theft.

Indeed, the Chancellor of the Exchequer probably has plenty of other stuff to worry about.

And it would be a pointless lie: having been told that the estate agent was sorting out the licence would get her completely off the hook, so why concoct a cover story that involved her failing to realise that she needed the licence?

A Reform UK councillor has defected to the Tories after becoming "uncomfortable" with Nigel Farage's party.

James Buchan said he wanted to be able to "look my family in the eye and say, 'that's not who I am'" after his former party announced plans to scrap indefinite leave to remain.

The Dartford Borough councillor, who won his seat for Reform in a by-election in July, said the policy creates a "huge amount of fear and anxiety".

He also accused the party of having "a pretty unfortunate way of treating people".
