The councillor WAS reported to police, but not for saying "born and bred", and the case was thrown out because they found that she had done nothing wrong.

Because it is ridiculous with US and UK law operating differently. As I said (which you ignored) this pastor will not face a jury in England. It will most likely be a magistrate who will need no assistance in deciding the case and handing out a caution and maybe a small fine.

The problem with this is that main stream media such as the BBC generally won't publish any story that puts the UK government in a bad light unless it is very, very bad. They had to be dragged kicking and screaming into reporting fairly on the For Women Scotland SC ruling, and the Post Office Horizon scandal - they very much batted for the Post Office at the beginning, only coming around once they could not ignore the facts any long. Of course, the BBC is always in the pocket of the government of the day - its where they get their funding from after all, so they are not truly independent of Downing Street.
Not good examples, the BBC had been investigating and reporting on the Post Office Horizon scandal long, long before the story "broke through" the ennui of the rest of the mainstream news media after the TV drama was shown. You are obviously unaware of all the investigative reporting the BBC does, it is not perfect but time and time again independent reviews show it does do very good, very reliable, very credible reporting. Definitely not perfect but good.
They are all repeating the same framing of the story. What we have here is one green ink letter of complaint that's been sent to different organisations, anonymously and even with the very little direct information we have of its content we know it was not complaining about her for just saying "born and bred" as the many paged letter apparently raised other issues with her behaviour. To frame it that 1) this is anything bar a letter of complaint from one person exercising their freedom of expression and 2) that it was sent just because she said "born and bred" is so distorted a framing that it passes into dishonesty.The Telegraph disagrees...

I NEVER claimed she was arrested, or charged. I ONLY EVER claimed she was reported to Police for saying she was "born and bred" in Falkirk.... That is EXACTLY what happened, and that is EXACTLY what I object to.
The process IS the punishment.
