Wow, UK has lost freedom of speech

... is false and a lie. That isn't what happened. Case closed
Hilarious
You quoted @P.J. Denyer's post which confirmed that the councillor WAS reported to police, and then called my post that said the same thing a lie.
Do you actually check what you have written before you hit "Post reply"... I mean the forum does have a "Preview" button.

The councillor WAS reported to police, but not for saying "born and bred", and the case was thrown out because they found that she had done nothing wrong.

QED.

A Reform UK councillor has been reported to police after saying she was “born and bred here” during a TV interview...

A Reform UK councillor reported to police for saying she was 'born and bred here' has had her case dropped after officers found 'no evidence of criminality'.

Sky News disagrees...
Sky News host Freya Leach reacts to a Reform UK councillor being referred to the police for stating she was “born and bred” in the UK.

COPS have dropped a probe into a Scottish Reform councillor’s “born and bred here” comments – ruling there was “no criminality” in her remarks.

And there are plenty more sources to pick from.

I NEVER claimed she was arrested, or charged. I ONLY EVER claimed she was reported to Police for saying she was "born and bred" in Falkirk.... That is EXACTLY what happened, and that is EXACTLY what I object to.
The process IS the punishment.

Yes, very unreliable. I try to quote the BBC where possible.
The problem with this is that main stream media such as the BBC generally won't publish any story that puts the UK government in a bad light unless it is very, very bad. They had to be dragged kicking and screaming into reporting fairly on the For Women Scotland SC ruling, and the Post Office Horizon scandal - they very much batted for the Post Office at the beginning, only coming around once they could not ignore the facts any long. Of course, the BBC is always in the pocket of the government of the day - its where they get their funding from after all, so they are not truly independent of Downing Street.

Of course the right-wing rags disagree.

Not good examples, the BBC had been investigating and reporting on the Post Office Horizon scandal long, long before the story "broke through" the ennui of the rest of the mainstream news media after the TV drama was shown. You are obviously unaware of all the investigative reporting the BBC does, it is not perfect but time and time again independent reviews show it does do very good, very reliable, very credible reporting. Definitely not perfect but good.

They are all repeating the same framing of the story. What we have here is one green ink letter of complaint that's been sent to different organisations, anonymously and even with the very little direct information we have of its content we know it was not complaining about her for just saying "born and bred" as the many paged letter apparently raised other issues with her behaviour. To frame it that 1) this is anything bar a letter of complaint from one person exercising their freedom of expression and 2) that it was sent just because she said "born and bred" is so distorted a framing that it passes into dishonesty.

As for not following up on anonymous claims of crimes being committed that seems to me to be a tad overkill to deal with green-letter tip-offs that police forces have been dealing with probably since lunchtime June 19th 1829.

Yet she called herself out for saying it, and the reporter called her out too. also, at least one poster here, @Carrot Flower King considers it offensive (referring to it as a "racist dog whistle")

Didn't say it was offensive, just pointed out that the phrase is used as a racist dog whistle. Context is an interesting thing...

Both PJ Denyer and I pointed out that there was more to the story and the complaint - 20 page dossiers, previous involvement in various stuff, all easily found in numerous Scottish media sources - than is presented in certain places.

I really wish folks would not use such bigoted terms.

But of course you should have the RIGHT to say it.
Suck it up snowflake....

More seriously 'toxic masculinity' is an apt term for the cludged together right-wing ideologies, mixing misogyny, homophobia and transphobia that has been endemic. It is a slapped together ideology that is toxic to men, women, and everyone else.

Overall, we rate The Telegraph Right Biased based on story selection that strongly favors the right and Mixed for factual reporting due to poor sourcing of information and some failed fact checks.

Come on, you would call most people out for using sources like the Daily Mail and Sky News. They're dog ◊◊◊◊ sources and untrustworthy at best, absolute tabloids at worst.
