So what form does the resistance take?

Thats completely, laughably wrong.
God, I really hate this whole business of "Personal Definitions" where people put their own definitions on words. Makes discussioin almost imposisble.
And I wonder what kind of course in ecnomics this guy took.
Free Market might not mean total lack of regulation, of course. It is a question of degrees.

BTW how the hell can you remove a quote after you have inserted it?

Some people do not understand what a blockade is.
A blockade is when you station ships around a country and keep the ships of ANY country from coming in. That has not happened since 1962.
Keeping ships from your own country from trading with another country is NOT a blockade.
Anyway, that belly of the best website is one I mistrust because it seem to be very pro current Cuban regime..which I am not. Itis possible to dislike the current regime in Cuba but still think sanctions whould be lifted, which is my position.

since we both agree that a Free Market is just a fiction, the question is: what is the closest approximation, and what does it require?

you agree that capitalism leads to cartels and monopolies: ergo, the State has to have the power and mandate to stop any such attempts. Government interference is necessary in even the most free markets that can actually be implemented.
Thats called a regulated market. I already stated this upthread.

October 18, 2025 - more or less everywhere:
NO THRONES. NO CROWNS. NO KINGS.
On October 18, millions of us are rising again to show the world: America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people.

In will be interesting to see how many million Americans are Antifas.

There hasnt been a US blockade on Cuba since 1962. And insofar as I can tell there are no US sanctions on them. Ie the USA doesnt take any measures against any other country trading with Cuba. Do I think the embargo should be relaxed? Yes. Probably everything except weapons.
Obama greatly relieved sanctions on Cuba and allowed direct access to the island from the US. Cruise ships started coming loaded with US tourists and US cash. Trump reversed all that and reinstated sanctions and the blockade during his first term. Biden continued it.

See the Cuba thread! Cuba has been resisting the U.S. imperialism since the late 1950s, but I don't this thread was meant to be about the Cuban revolution: https://internationalskeptics.com/f...s/protests-erupt-in-cuba.352780/post-14681878

No, no, not really. It's not a question of what mainstream conservatism is to me!
In Denmark, we had examples of Emily Cat's kind of 'mainstream conservatism' in the mid-1930s.

Konservativ Ungdom: KU i mellemkrigstiden (Wikipedia)
Young Conservatives: Between WW1 and WW2
The lead of Young Conservatives 1932-1936 was Jack C. Westergaard, who represented a radical-right neo-conservatism and e.g. distanced himself from universal suffrage and parliamentarianism. At first, the ideological and propagandistic change of Young Conservatives was a success, and the number of members doubled from 15,000 in 1932 to 30,000 in 1936.

However, the leader of the Conservative Party replaced him with somebody more moderate.

Nowadays, conservatives in Denmark have the kind of political ideology that may form a very good starting point of actual fascism, but it is nowhere near full-blown fascism like in the current GOP. See also Green conservatism (Wikipedia).

Stolen Valour Pete's move with the press is really stupid. Most of those reporters would have been heavily embedded in the military ecosytem and it was very easy to ensure they only reported what the brass wanted. Now they're outside, they're going to have to go to unauthorised sources and get a less official and more accurate picture of the military.

I haven't suggested not vaccinating kids for MMRV, but don't let that stop you from killing that dragon, Mr. Quixote.
I never claimed that Ms. Just-an-Ordinary-Conservative suggested this, and my post was not in response to any of hers. What she did say, however, was this:
... the shingles vaccine shouldn't be *free*. Available, yes, absolutely. But shingles is not contagious and is also not lethal. It's painful and super duper sucks, but it's not a public health risk nor life threatening. I'm happy that the vaccines are available, and I've got an appointment for mine coming up... but it shouldn't be mandated to be provided free of cost to the consumer.
So let me stress again:
1) Shingles is actually contagious ...
2) ... and thus a public health risk ...
3) ... and thus lethal and life-threatening for anybody who is immunocompromised.
4) It should also be provided free of charge to everybody who ever had chickenpox because many people can't afford the two Shingrix jabs.
5) "It's painful" is an understatement. When I had shingles, the pain wasn't too bad and didn't last long. However, ...
Shingles Symptoms and Complications (CDC.gov, April 19, 2024)
Complications
Shingles can lead to serious complications.
Long-term nerve pain
The most common complication of shingles is long-term nerve pain called postherpetic neuralgia, or PHN.
PHN occurs where the shingles rash was located, even after the rash clears up. It can last for months or years after the rash goes away. PHN is extremely painful and can interfere with daily life.
Who is at risk
About 10% to 18 % of people who have shingles also experience PHN. Your risk of PHN increases with age. Compared to a younger person with shingles, an older adult with shingles is more likely to develop PHN; and have longer lasting and more severe pain. People younger than 40 years old rarely experience PHN.
After-shingles pain: Significant impact on elderly (KSAT, June 19, 2012)
Ms. Jones is not alone in her struggle. Every year, approximately 1 million Americans develop shingles, or herpes zoster. Distinguishable by a rash and blisters that most commonly occur on the torso -- chest and back -- waistline, upper arms or side of the face, shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox, the varicella-zoster virus.
One-in-five people diagnosed with shingles suffer complications resulting in PHN, or after-shingles pain resulting from nerve damage caused by the virus. PHN pain, which may last for months or sometimes even years, can be devastating to those it affects.
PHN-life and death (Patient Communities, March 2017)
Recently read that PHN is the leading cause for suicide among seniors. Having suffered with PHN since 2012 and being over 60 myself I can understand how that can be. Since the shingles virus has been around for decades my question is how was this horrendous affliction dealt with 75/100yrs ago?

This is why the shingles vaccine is free of charge for 60+ in civilized countries with proper healthcare systems. The price of Shingrix is pretty steep, which is why privatized healthcare doesn't want to provide it for free and instead tries to minimize the (sometimes excruciating and year-long) pain by calling it non-lethal even though it sometimes is.

Since this is a thread about the resistance, I think it's worse pointing out that the resistance against privatized healthcare should be present with (at least) a couple of signs and banners at the No Kings rallies this weekend.

There's also a No Kings rally in Copenhagen tomorrow. And once again, since Denmark is a constitutional monarchy, it's not called No Kings.
In June it was called No Tyrants, but this time the title is:
No Dictators: Lights for Democracy (Democrats Abroad)
Join us on Saturday, October 18th, 2025 for a No Dictators: Lights for Democracy protest event in central Copenhagen. We'll begin gathering at 5:30 pm as the sun sets. The event will start at 6:00 pm as we bring light into the darkness in a quiet candlelight vigil for democracy. Come together with us on a day of peaceful protest in the U.S. and around the world. The oligarchs and dictators will not win if we stand together to show that we care about democracy. Sometimes the actions that speak the loudest, and are most powerful, are the quiet ones.
