Wow, UK has lost freedom of speech

On a semi-related topic, Brits are being insulted and chastised for doing the unthinkable: waving the British or English flag.

Well I could explain it to you but your utter lack of understanding of the UK political situation would make it a waste of effort.


Suffice it to say "flag shaggers" are an understood thing here and they're all far right loons.

Waving your national flag on your property should not be a controversial issue. It should be no different than growing grass on your lawn. The UK is very odd.

Cracking down on freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, in order to protect society. A police state that monitor social media for unacceptable speech. Maybe even emails?

Encouraging whistleblowers to turn in these evildoers.

Yep, a benevolent authoritarian regime.

But we all know, it never works out well.

You either have a free society where people have to put on their big boy pants and tolerate some not nice words, for the greater good of a free society. Or we have an authoritarian regime police state.

Guess you haven't been reading the thread. Lots of people here calling for All sorts of nonviolent speech to be criminalized in the UK. Some folks even calling for people to be physically assaulted based on their views.

And free speech worked really well for Trump, so now he will get rid of it, like a true fascist.

The symbolism of the cross of St George especially has loooooooong been co-opted by the far right, neo-fascist groups, racists and the like, as I'm sure a keen student of 20th century UK history, such as your good self, will be fully aware, let alone its symbolism going as far back as the Crusades or the Unionist version in the Six Counties with the Red Hand of Ulster in the middle.

There are many, many, many very unsavoury connotations. The Union Flag, less so, but there can still be some.

It is nowhere near as simple as "the British or English flag".

If your flag is soo horrible and racist why dont you change it?

However, Nazis and the KKK often wave American flags. But we didn't let them co-opt and take ownership of our flag.

Why have you guys allowed racists to co-opt your flag? Maybe you should just take it back.
