Trump's promised ICE raids have begun

The weird thing is, this was just being reported today, but the Wikipedia page on this operation has been up for some time now. Even today, the last time it was edited was 11 days ago. It started September 9th, and two weeks later was already claiming 500 arrests.

If it's true, then it's all true: The building had drug dealers, and foreign gang members in the country illegally. It sucks for the innocent neighbors. Hopefully they'll be able to sleep better at night, now that the raid is over.

Bwahahahahahaha... thanks for the laugh, and also for helping to prove me right.

There are probably quite a number of upmarket apartment buildings where some proportion of residents are white collar criminals or foreigners.

How many of those would they be allowed to drop troops on by helicopter, smash everyone's door in, drag them all out, naked or otherwise, in zip tie handcuffs and drive them all away in vans for processing as either potentially guilty or innocent?

You let the innocent ones go of course, and wish them a pleasant night's sleep safe in the knowledge their undesirable neighbours are being dealt with.

If my kids were taken naked and zip tied into a rental van at 1AM by my own government, and my door smashed in and apertment trashed, I'm feeling like I wouldn't be sleeping well in the foreseeable future.

It's basic police practice to detain people at the scene of an investigation. I see it happen all the time. Personally I don't stigmatize zip ties over handcuffs, but obviously I can't dictate how you feel about the two. I will say that only one person claims to have been zip-tied, and they were not a naked child. If you're going to stipulate that the claims are true, then you need to stick to what was actually claimed, and not fill in the blanks with your preferred narrative.

The good old double-down. There you go, nothing can go wrong there. After all, you've now proven that nothing is too far for you. Your opinion on anything cruel can safely be ignored from now until the end of time. You have no platform to complain about anything Dems do at all. Anything you say is moot.

How often do these investigations you see involve the cops getting warrants for every home in an apartment building and then smash their way into as many as they can in the middle of the night?

(Sorry about 'filling in the blanks' and blithely assuming any actual cops were involved, or any warrants.)

That's kind of the problem. Every occupant of that apartment building was not being investigated, but they were all treated as if they were. For our law enforcement agencies to globally target buildings instead of specific individuals with such draconian measures is invasive to our rights.

Zip ties and cuffs are the same tool, IMO. Cuffs would have been just as bad.

I've seen several reports of this (and I had to dig) and interviews with witnesses, beyond what is posted here, so I'll cop to considering evidence not presented to the thread, conceded.

I liken it to terrorists using human shields. Sometimes you just have to round every one up, and then separate the wheat from the chaff.

Cuffs would have been just as good, in my opinion.

Cool.

In such a situation, yes, you might. I am not convinced this was such a situation.

How would you feel about the president declaring war on antifa next, and deciding that, say, your street was loaded with them, and gave you similar treatment? You, personally, and your loved ones, corralled, and drug out of your home in the middle of the night?

Terrorists use human shields to dissuade you from just dropping bombs on them.

People having neighbours is not that. Criminals do not have neighbours to stop the police arresting them. Financial criminals living in swanky apartments do not have similarly rich neighbours to prevent the police dropping bombs on them. They just have neighbours.
