Somebody should have told Kimmel that; he might still have a job.
Haha it's funny because conservatives never actually cared about free speech.
Somebody should have told Kimmel that; he might still have a job.
Where did I say it was okay? I've not mentioned Trump in this thread at all. I'm just amazed at the people who profess to be skeptics expressing zero skepticism about something that is plainly ridiculous because it happens to suit their worldview (that Robinson is a MAGA and opposed Kirk from the Right).
In fact, some Republicans who consider themselves defenders of unfettered speech are getting more comfortable with limiting it. Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., told Semafor that “an FCC license, it’s not a right. It really is a privilege.
“Under normal times, in normal circumstances, I tend to think that the First Amendment should always be sort of the ultimate right. And that there should be almost no checks and balances on it. I don’t feel that way anymore,” Lummis added.
Why do you think that you need to continue to escalate? If your mentally disabled cousin says something mean, do you really feel that you have to say something meaner in retaliation?FTFY.
Care to point out what I ever said to "escalate"?Why do you think that you need to continue to escalate? If your mentally disabled cousin says something mean, do you really feel that you have to say something meaner in retaliation?
Seriously, just because Trump is an ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ doesn't mean that you and a bunch of other progressives are required to out-◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ them!
Hoods.The masks are off.
When the MAGA caravan rolled through town the other day post assassination, waving their flags and religious signs, I had zero doubt in my mind that had it been 50-100 yrs prior, they would have been all wearing white robes. No doubt at all.Hoods.
It's a long, long road...He's not heavy, he's my brother![]()
You know, Senator Lummis, if you had thought about the Second Amendment that same way, Charlie Kirk would probably not be dead right now. Just sayin'...It should be noted that the complete turnaround by conservatives on free speech isn't just limited to this forum.
Kimmel’s suspension prompts free-speech Republicans to reconsider their boundaries

There's more examples in the article.
The masks are off. We were right to call them fascists because that's what they always were.
If my mentally disabled cousin is actively trying to turn the country into a fascist theocratic hell hole then turning people against him is wrong because its mean? Why do you think that you need to continue to escalate? If your mentally disabled cousin says something mean, do you really feel that you have to say something meaner in retaliation?

I've only seen a few of his monologues but they certainly seemed to be light entertainment with no attempt to pretend they were a news bulletin. Have you a link to show how his last show had drastically changed the format and he was making it look like it was meant to be a news programme?Somebody should have told Kimmel that; he might still have a job.
That's what David Letterman said:All the late night talk show comedians talk about current events. Comedians have always made jokes about politics.
"Well, this is misery": David Letterman weighs in on the Kimmel suspension (The Daily Kos on YouTube, Sep 18, 2025 - 1:14 min.)
0:20--> But this is me. For 30 years, I did this for a living.
Just today, Trump tweeted that Ilhan Omar was scum. Escalate much?
"... MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them."
It was idiotic when he said it. There's still a lot of denial going on around here, but everything we've heard indicates the assassin was not MAGA. Kimmel was spreading disinformation, and by accounts was going to double down, which moves it into deliberate falsehood.
Many others were no doubt hoping that it wouldn't be anybody from their community, party, ethnicity, sexual minority etc.Utah Governor hoped Charlie Kirk's killer wouldn't be 'one of us' (YouTube short, 24 sec.)
"For 33 hours, I was, I was praying that, uh, if this had to happen here, that it wouldn't be one of us. That somebody drove from another state, somebody came from another country. Sadly that prayer was not answered the way I hoped for." (YouTube short, 24 sec.)
Yes, but avoiding talking about the news (as was suggested) goes very much against the grain.Talking about current events doesn't make it a news programme.
Of course - but in broadcast media there has always been a distinction between entertainment and news, Kimmel is firmly on the entertainment side even if he is making topical comments and jokes about what is happening in the world.Yes, but avoiding talking about the news (as was suggested) goes very much against the grain.
