Someone could have done exactly what Charlie Kirk was doing. A secular statist could have set up a tent at a university and expounded upon the wonders of centralized government. But like me 55 years ago, those college kids were already subjected to those teachings in their economics and political science courses. So, like the attempt to compete on the radio, this most likely would have failed.

Good, that's something at least.

Now if Rep Mace would just use something remotely resembling sense in their posts, that would be another step. This persecution of Omar is way out of hand. I mean, I don't particularly like Omar, and I don't think it's appropriate for a congresscritter (on either side) to imply that someone deserved to be assassinated for their political beliefs. But free speech is still free speech, and this newest "deport Omar" thing is absurd and even more divisive than we already have.

Where did I say it was okay? I've not mentioned Trump in this thread at all. I'm just amazed at the people who profess to be skeptics expressing zero skepticism about something that is plainly ridiculous because it happens to suit their worldview (that Robinson is a MAGA and opposed Kirk from the Right).

IMO Bondi only seemed less bad was because all we knew about her (me anyway) was she took a bribe to let Trump off of some legal case she was overseeing.

I suppose it's just barely possible that "I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out." refers to Kirk's hate directed against Fuentes' fanboys, but that seems like a really slim branch to be crawling out on, given how common that sentiment is on lefty Bluesky.

Also the bullet memes were pretty antifash.

I think one of the most ◊◊◊◊◊◊ up things about this scenario is that there is an assumption that because (apparently) Robinson disagreed with Kirk about his (presumed) relationship with a transexual, that he must be a full on radical leftist. Never mind that there are a million other issues that could portray him as either left or right leaning politically, it all comes down to his sexual inclinations. I don't think it is farfetched that Kirk's outspoken rhetoric on trans and LBGTQ people was a possible source of Robinson's view that he espoused "hatred" So does that mean he had left wing ideology? One issue? That is obviously the assumption being made by the right here. But folks like Peter Thiel or Caitlyn Jenner might disagree that they are radical leftists, no? Can any other issue be demonstrated that makes Robinson a "leftist"? Was he pro gun control? Did he fight for women's rights? Did he go around talking about climate change? Did he denounce police racial profiling? I'm waiting for all that evidence...

It was idiotic when he said it. There's still a lot of denial going on around here, but everything we've heard indicates the assassin was not MAGA. Kimmel was spreading disinformation, and by accounts was going to double down, which moves it into deliberate falsehood.

When the U.S. government threatens a media company to get them to fire a talk show host, it's totally fine because he said a thing you don't like.
