General Israel/Palestine discussion thread - Part 4

However you like to label it, Fiji is travelling pretty well. Native Fijians government the country, while Fijian Indians run the economy. And the coexist quite satisfactorily.
Thank goodness for the diplomatic, economic and military powerhouse known as Fiji.

:dl:

You seem to dislike the majority of members of Israel's Parliament, Herc.
Again, I note that you don't get a vote. Too bad, so sad.

Just because a nation is not a "powerhouse" on the world stage, doesn't make them a "second class country" that can be discriminated against, or ignored, or ridiculed.

Maybe Fiji wants to contribute their excellent bottled water to the Gazans? That is something nice, in the circumstances, and should be welcomed. I'm sure that Israel will provide assistance in distributing that water, just as Israel is providing all sorts of logistical and security contributions for more aid to enter.
There's no famine, there's no genocide, and there's no stopping in the pursuit of forcing Hamas to GTFO.

And in Gaza, armed local clans are also pushing back against Hamas control.

The more I watch this unfold, the more I'm proud of IDF, and the more I know Palestinians will be unchained from the Hamas maniacs.

If they are fascists, so be it.

Fiji can very easily be ignored and ridiculed. :)

Speaking about Belgium, this article popped up on my Doomscroll this morning.

We already know what's going on in France. And the UK.
Belgium, ditto.

Let me see if I understand your logic about Fiji:
It's deserving of ridicule. They can be ignored and not given any credit for their pro-Israel actions, because, well, why?

How about you initiate a tertiary boycott against Fiji? Let's see some keffiya-wrapped 'activists' go into supermarkets, and dump the Fiji brand water onto the floor.

If they (n.b. - Israeli political representatives) are fascists, so be it.

Seems like a natural thing to expand communities, to create housing for larger families, to bring Jewish life into full bloom across the Land of Israel. The Israeli 'Supreme Planning Council' has advanced 25,129 housing units this year already, an all-time record.

^^^^^^ racist fascists

Except for war crimes and crimes against humanity. At least in civilised countries, anyway. Soldiers who commit war crimes are not lawful combatants.

One of those two governments decided to murder thousands of innocent civilians, starve the entire population, force them out of their homes, and bomb their schools and hospitals to rubble. What was the ratio of Palestinians vs Israelis killed? Do you even know?

It's 56:1.

56 Palestinians for every Israeli killed since the massacre began in October 2023. Most of the Israelis killed were on October 7th. The Palestinian corpse count includes over 19,000 children.

This, to you, is just?
And that's the confirmed kills. The ratio is likely to be five or six times higher if not more.

And that's only counting the casualties in this round of the genocide, which has been going on since 1948.

Arthwollipot, when it comes to tertiary boycotts (refusing to do business with companies that do business with Israel) the BDS is quite virulent regarding their pursuit of non-Israeli firms. (See: Sabra hummus, a PepsiCo brand).
If the decision is made to go after Fiji and protest their opening an embassy in Jerusalem, the most visible product is the water with the name Fiji. You think it matters if there's no connection whatsoever with the nation of Fiji? Irrelevant.
BDS is all about optics. And propaganda.

This one is for Hercules56 (he could have written it himself) ---

Tell me again that this is just.

The Israeli offensive in Gaza has killed more than 65,000 people, mostly civilians, and injured more than 160,000 since 7 October 2023. Swathes of the territory have been reduced to ruin, and almost 90% of homes damaged. Health services have collapsed and expert UN-backed monitors declared famine in the north last month.

Tell me again that this is just.
Of course it's not just. There's a reason mingling soldiers and civilians is a war crime. You're just blaming the wrong party for the injustice. Once again, we see the world's enthusiasm for having Israel shoulder the burden of Hamas's moral failures.

Oh, so, like we should be blaming the rape victim for wearing provocative clothing.

Thanks for that.

Knowing there were soo many Hamas fighters mingling with civilians in the highly congested Gaza Strip, Israel should have allowed Gazans to leave and move to the West Bank. But Israel has made that almost impossible for many years.

Hamas is the rapist, not the victim.
Hamas isn't the one flattening everyone's houses.

The Acled report also found that incidents involving the demolition of buildings in Gaza had increased significantly since the renewal of hostilities in March, with 698 in the 15 months before, and 500 in the six months since. Many incidents involved more than one building, researchers said.
