Trump's promised ICE raids have begun

ICE detain 4 car wash employees—all legal residents of U.S.

"It's not legal to take him because he's a resident," manager told agent.

"We're going to take him and check—if he's good we'll bring him back," agent said.

Handcuffed and taken away in white vans to unknown location.

"In other words, you're guilty of 'looking' illegal until you prove yourself innocent."

The raid occurred at Bixby Knolls Car Wash in Long Beach, California.

Back when I got my green card ('85), it was strongly impressed on me that I had to keep it on me at all times in case I was challenged.

Might be a good idea if that's likely to happen to you.

Why would it happen to . . . oh yeah.
Yeah, yeah. My point is that this is nothing new. Back then, I was occasionally asked to present it because I lived near the Mexican border, and had to go through border patrol checkpoints from time to time (yes, despite not crossing any border).

It's absolutely fascist, but it's nothing new.

It's one of the benefits of being a born-and-bred American- you are easily identified by speaking your first indignant words. The Border guys say to themselves "oh, yeah, only a native born American would be this obnoxious".

And citizens should keep their passport on them at all times as well to prove their citizenship. Or at least their birth certificate and social security card. Don't let anyone tell you that you don't need to carry all your vital documents with you at all times.

I actually got in an argument with a cop about why I didn't have any ID on me while I was walking my dog in the park (cop wanted to know why I was skulking around in the park late at night and not responding to him calling out). I said that I wasn't plannig to drive or leave the country while the dog ◊◊◊◊◊.

Hmmm.... None of the "born-and-bred Americans" of my acquaintance, who were always ballsing on about how uniquely free America was, seemed to think there was anything unusual or undesirable about those Border patrol checkpoints. "They're just looking for illegal aliens, dude", they'd tell me when I drew comparisons with Nazi ("Papers, please") Germany at the time and never saw my point.

It's sad, but I've recently begun to carry my passport with me. I am not white, so I feel it necessary to do so while MAGA controls the nation. Sadly, I think if ICE wanted to, they would still deport me and my passport would just disappear along with my body.
The masked, nameless, unaccountable thugs (I can't bring myself to call them officers) who can make you disappear to a concentration camp in some other country? Yes, they can literally do absolutely whatever they want.

Yeah, it's a sad situation when people have to do things they shouldn't need to do in the hope that it will prevent government agents from doing things they shouldn't be able to do at all.

I'd recommend having a good pair of running shoes over a passport.

I'd like a paper bag test under natural light before opining.

And seriously, sorry you had to deal with that. These people are anti American.

No worries -- it was only a minor inconvenience at the time. The hypocrisy, when compared to how Americans describe their government and their freedoms, is what still sticks with me. Ironically, the vast majority of the border patrol agents I saw were Hispanic.

If I recall correctly, border patrol checkpoints were allowed up to 40 miles inland from the international borders. After 9/11, this was changed to 100 miles inland, and oceans and international airports were now included, meaning the vast majority of the US were theoretically subject to these border checkpoints. On simple journeys on I-8 or I-10 in California between San Diego and Tucson, you might encounter three border patrol checkpoints, and those would be staffed by people in military fatigues with dogs. It's no longer like that, but I don't think the laws have been changed.

I've never bought into this Land of the Free ◊◊◊◊, but again, this is not a Trumpian thing. Trump's border policies are a response to decades of neglect in this area.

So, why didn't the fat clown detain or deport him?

Disappointing, really. I think we are still in the low six figures of the number of illegals who have been deported. I was hoping we would be high into the seven figures, possibly into the eight figures by now.

There's always hope he will activate more National Guard, reserves and even active duty military to help with the effort.

Yeah, good luck with all that crap, but anyway, all kidding aside, how many of the 11 - 60 million (estimates depend on which maga weirdo is quoting them*) that Biden let in that the fat clown has rounded up and deported, or where can I go to find those numbers?

*They really should get together and get their "facts" straight.

From your own source:

"At least four of those detained had documentation granting them legal status in the country, according to Paz." I suppose that it's possible the car wash maanger was lying, but what evidence do you have for this?
According to their manager. This is why I commented they should have had their papers on them in that case like I had to do. I suspect they don't have any.

The manager is probably covering himself because knowingly hiring illegals is itself against the law.

As I'm reading the somewhat ambiguous wording, the seven arrested didn't have their paperwork physically on them when the ICE raided? Working at a car wash, I can understand not physically carrying stuff on you, and it's not like ICE gives you opportunity to get your stuff together.
