Trump's Second Term

And there will be helpful volunteers to take down your name & address and ensure you’ve voted correctly. Oh and make sure you take along your citizenship papers!

And if you have dark skin, or any thought of not voting for him, your toothbrush..

Doesn't that apply to articles exported from state to state? I might be wrong but can't taxes be levied on articles exported from the United States?
Yes, but only the federal govement can do it. States cannot impose customs or duties or tariffs on their own.
The COnstituion specifically forbids states from imposing taxes or any other form of duty or tariff on products from other states.
Economic war between states under the Articles of Confederation which allowed it was one of the resons the COnstiuion was adaptee.

I’ve just watched a show on Australian TVs 4Corners called “Trump vs the Law”. It was made in the US and I will try to find out by whom.

Anyway, it outlined Trump’s many violations, with toadies like Bannon, Tucker Carlson,
Yoo and others in support of his full immunity. But it also highlighted how many conservative lawyers and even Trump appointed officials have resigned in protest. This might be the grain that turns into an avalanche.

In times like this, hope is important.

ETA the show also highlighted the unforgivable silence of the Congress. The fear Trump is engendering may be his biggest legacy.
There has been a Never Trump movement since 2016, and several promnent cnservatovies, George Will among them, have always opposed Trump.
Fact is, he is doing completly the opposite of classic American Conservatism has stood for he is incresing the power of the federal govement and concentrating power in one man's hands.
The problem is too man coservatives see this as a chance to destroy the liberals and are going along with Trump on the grounds that if he goes toofar they can somehow control him.
Same mistake German Conservatives made when they supported Hitler taking power. One remarked when criticised for this "But don't you see/ We have bought the man".Boy, was he wrong.
Congress giving up many of it;s powers to the Presidency has been a problem for many years..and the GOP are not the only guilty ones here.
And the reason is one of the eteranal problems with Democracy: Politicans are too scared to handle the tough issues for fear of upsetting voters, and therefore are happy to kick the problem to somebody else. They have abdicated their powers to avoid endangering their reelections chances.
More and More I think term limits are necessary. I really, really, people makng careers out of elective office. The idea was that somebody would go to congress serve a few terms, tne then go back to civilian life. People basically staying on for 20 or more years in congress would have horrified the founding fathers. And, once again, this goes for both parties.
And I agree that hope is important.
Never Despair was a classic Winston Churchill slogan.
And frankly, the Edgelord nihilism we see from a couple of posters here are very helpful to Trum and company, I am tired of their posturing, because that is what it comes off to me like. Teenage Angst kept on well after they should have grown out of it. Snark alone is no longer enough.

Trump: Now they talk about putting low income housing there, can you believe this?
I love low income housing. I made money with it. I built low income housing. I know more about low income housing and luxury houses, I know about everything real estate. They want to replace some of those homes with low income housing.

I think he's mixing up his words again, this time it's 'income' and 'quality' he's got confused on.

What’s so controversial about cleaning up the crime in Washington, D.C.?
Seems like a good idea to normal Americans.
Thank you, President Trump!

Hilary is a traitor! talking to foreigners when she was Secretary of State! Lock Her Up!

Kash Patel uncovers private Clinton emails with Chinese officials discussing uranium deals.

As opposed to selling a supposed ally down the river entirely by having a "peace summit" in their absence with the country that invaded them and by insisting that they give up territory for "peace".

Thank you, President Trump!

Remember when Republicans hated big government and thought the people should always be on their guard against the possible rise of a tyrannical government?

Seems so quaint now they're embracing it eagerly.

Well, they should definitely imho clean up the crime in DC....
Starting with the most prominent criminal of them all...

Can usually be found in a big white house- or sometimes on its roof yelling at people...

BBC fact checking on President Trump's claims regarding crime in Washington DC:

tl;dr version - he's full of organic fertiliser.
"Trump and the DC Police Union have questioned the veracity of the city police department's crime figures."

I do think that Trump needs to be encouraged to set-up a ministry of truth so they can release the official figures rather than relying on experts who often don't know what the right figures should be.

ANd a reminder to some here who seem to be taking great schafreude about what is happening in the US that if Democracy goes under in the US, every Democracy in the world is on the endangered species list. If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere.
I suggest of the Euros here look at the support extreme right wing parties have gotten in the last few elections,

Sure, but not being two party states and having an actual representative democracy does help. The same amount of votes does not give the 100pct control the US now has to deal with.
Also, our police and law systems being actually independent of politics helps too.
Its not impossible, see Hungary, but at least harder. Except the UK

So remember to be extra polite at those traffic stops in DC from now on as the officer will have snipers and a mortar platoon making him safer.

Yes it can. But many other democracies don't have the same inherent weaknesses of the USA system.

... Except the UK

Yeah, we're frighteningly only an election cycle away from Peformative Cruelty Ltd having a real chance at getting their hands on power, unless the Trump circus becomes such an obvious fiasco that would-be copycats become a toxic brand.

Canada had the lucky break that their Trump-wannabe was totally undermined by Trump himself declaring he wanted to seize control of their country. We can't rely on his doing anything quite as stupid as that to save our skins.

Why? Our last general election wiped out our right wing party.
