Face, meet leopard. Leopard, meet face.

Your post appeared to be complaining about companies being closing and/or suffering hardship because of ICE raids. That suggests at least some aspect of sympathy for the company itself. It seems like a reasonable inference from what you wrote. If you have a different intent, by all means elaborate and alleviate my misunderstanding.
No complaints. No sympathy. If they broke the law, tough.
This belongs in CT. But don't let that slow you down any.
How many white Anglo Mexicans are being harrassed, arrested, detained and put in Alligator Alcatraz? Compared to the brown Hispanic variety?
I didn't.
Yeah you did. Read what's written, not what you thought it said.

Out of curiosity, is the tourism decline unique to the US, or is it more widespread? I could see reasons for either.

U.S. Tourism Will Lose Up To $29 Billion As Visitors Plummet Amid Trump Policies

By Suzanne Rowan Kelleher, Forbes Staff.

Topline

While tourism is booming across the rest of the world, the U.S. is a notable loser this year as tens of millions of international visitors are choosing to travel elsewhere—costing the economy up to $29 billion—and risking millions of jobs.
and

Key Facts

Last month, a study from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) that analyzed the economic impact of tourism in 184 countries revealed the U.S. was the only country forecast to see international visitor spending decline in 2025.

I know one major brand in the UK that has been rejigging their marketing campaign as it was initially planned last year to use several USA locations and have competition prizes based on trips etc. to those locations. (Can't say which company as it's a "What's said dog walking stays in dog walking" I walk with the mother of the marketing director.) I suspect it is hardly the only company as trips to the USA have always been a popular prize for marketing campaigns.

It is true that US tourism is negatively affected by Trump and the MAGAchud.

But here is the problem... Many of those most affected were not Trump supporters and have gotten their faces eaten even though they were Democrat supporters. California and New York both widely supported Harris but they have seen tourism drop off there. Even in "red" states like Florida, many of the most popular tourist destinations were in urban areas that did not vote republican.

Definitely the case in Vermont. Of course we must now also reckon with the question of whether this is just the way the cookie crumbles or or part of a plan.

Not sure I can get the link up on my way obsolete tablet here, but the Lebanese owner of the "Trump Burger" chain, a fanatical MAGA supporter, turns out... you guesse it..to have committed some fraud, and out he goes!

I particularly enjoyed this:

But in May, Beainy found himself on the wrong side of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown when he was arrested on allegations of immigration fraud. The Department of Homeland Security said they'd received evidence that the marriage through which he had applied for citizenship was a "sham designed to game the system."

"This person has no Green Card, a history of illegal marriages, and an assault charge. DHS is actively pursuing all legal avenues to address this flagrant abuse of our immigration laws," the agency said in a statement to Chron. In June, Beainy was granted his request for bond while he undergoes immigration proceedings.

Beainy told Chron that his attorney had advised him not to comment, but did say that "90 percent of the s—t they're saying is not true."

Have a nice trip back to Lebanon! :dl: :dl: :dl:

Probably very few. This is poor logic though. You're latching on to an external visible characteristic, and you're assuming that to be the *reason* for the detention, arrest, and deportation.

What portion of illegal entrants in the US are of the low melanin variety? Of those, what portion are involved in gang-related and other criminal activity?

Sorry, you have the logic wrong. Plenty of detainees do not fall into those categories. They are, however, Hispanic and brown.

This is not only a question of people in other countries disapproving of Trump and his supporters.
This is also a question of the risk of being detained or not allowed entry into the country.

I don't remember how many times I have visited the USA. Maybe eight or nine. Only once on my own*, to TAM 2 in Las Vegas. Most of the other times were school trips with students to New York (and sometimes D.C.). I haven't asked my former colleagues what they'll do from now on, but I assume that trips like that won't happen anymore because there will probably be one or two students in every class who may be Danish but don't look Danish. They may also have names that you wouldn't associate with Denmark.

Then there's the question of what those students might have on their phones or the traces they've left on social media. Only 5% of Danes would have voted for Trump in Nov '24.
The Danes are more like Afro-Americans, according to expert (TV2.dk, Nov 3, 2024)
That Danes would prefer Kamala Harris as POTUS means that Danes differ "significantly" from the majority of white Americans on the issue of politics.
This attitude is reflected in what Danes post on social media, which might lead to one or more students being detained at the airport or refused entry, which would be a major disruption of a school trip. Add to this the fact that students have a say in which country to visit. They are usually presented with a choice of three or four countries, and if the USA is even one of them nowadays (for the reasons mentioned above, I doubt it), the desire to choose that particular destination has probably waned. It used to be popular, but I doubt that it still is.

U.S. Tourism Will Lose Up To $29 Billion As Visitors Plummet Amid Trump Policies (Forbes, July 4, 2025)
U.S. Tourism is Having Its WORST Summer EVER in 2025 - Will it Recover? (GlobalJourneys, Aug 6, 2025 - 11:37 min.)
In the summer of 2025, the U.S. travel industry is facing an unprecedented crisis. Visitor numbers are plunging, flights are being canceled, theme parks are seeing record-low attendance, and the economic ripple effects are hitting hard. With a reported sixty-one percent drop in tourism and billions in lost revenue, this may be the sharpest decline in over a decade.
What’s causing this sudden collapse? Is it political? Economic? Or something bigger?
In this video, we dive into the reasons behind the dramatic fall in tourism — from viral moments to boycotts — and explore what it means for the future of the travel industry. We also hear from voices on the ground, content creators, business owners, and insiders who are sounding the alarm.
Will the tourism sector recover before the next travel season? Or is this the beginning of a long-term shift in global travel trends?
What's causing this? All of the above?

This stuff is bound to impact more people than just the ones who voted for the face-eating-leopards party, and I don't think that any of them will be able to appreciate the irony.

* Which won't happen again! Not in a million years.

We won't be going back to the US anytime soon - maybe ever taking into account my age.
We used to visit friends on the east and west coasts at least once a year. 20 years ago I used to go to the Bay Area to lay down some bass at various SF studios. We have good friends that we stayed with on extended visits, and they'd come and stay with us in our Cotswold homes.
The last time I was in the states was to attend a small 3 day jazz festival on the beach in Miami, Feb. 2020 (arrived back in time for COVID). It was a yearly thing for us.

No more, there's a good chance I would be turned back at the border even though I used to have a multi-entry, unlimited visa.
We will miss seeing our friends regularly, maybe some will come to Spain. In fact we've already hosted a couple of them this year.
I'll really miss it.

Lived in Houston from '01 to '04. It's a long trip, but I've always wanted to go back to the States on a visit. Not happening now. Not if you paid me.

Mrs Don and I will likely have to go back to the US in the next few years. Mrs Don's mom is in her 80s and is no longer willing or able to travel.

We will travel reluctantly and it's unlikely we'll do anything touristic while we're there, just do family stuff and hightail it back to the UK ASAP.

Highly regretfully, we won't be risking the US Border Force Lotto in the immediate future. We are too old and frail to put up with that ◊◊◊◊. My wife is wheelchair-bound, and I am liable to say stuff that would only make a really deep ◊◊◊◊ situation worse.
