At last check, the Trump Administration was engaging in blatantly political purges even during that first term. Their shenanigans were held back to some extent by the rules and incompetence, but not even remotely entirely and did significant damage across the board regardless. To my view, it should have been and is utterly predictable that things would get far worse in a second Trump term and likely in any plausible Republican term if Trump hadn't been the next Republican President, given the state of that group of anti-American saboteurs. Not least because of the reclassification of federal employees EO bomb that Trump left behind.
