Trump's Second Term

On his new aeroplane

Q: Do you any questions about whether the cost renovating the Qatari plane -- in the hundreds of millions of dollars -- is worth it, considering how little time you'll be able to use it?

TRUMP: It's a great plane ... when you look at 747s, the heads of state, especially from the Arab countries -- Saudi Arabia -- and you put it next to this, it doesn't show well for the United States.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright says rescinding all greenhouse gas emissions regulations is about ending "the cancel culture Orwellian squelching of science"

I can't help but wonder if they just do this type of ◊◊◊◊ knowing that a lot of companies aren't going to go back. It is kind of a surface level change. Sure companies won't be aggressive about getting more "green", and it stalls us moving forward on reducing climate change, and make no mistake I think that sucks out loud....but no companies are really going to regress. All companies have to know that Trump isn't permanent and the next POTUS, which will undeniably be Democrat, will just put everything back in place. The investment to get rid of the changes they have made up to now are significant, I would think.

For many years, when I encountered anti-American bluster from Germans, French, Norwegians, whatever,
I had fun responding, with a gentle smile, "But Europeans can't insult
Americans. They lack the raw materials." It was a laff watching their
expressions as they struggled for a comeback.

No more, b'god. No more.

You know, back in the days he actually made sense when he talked. Now it's increasingly just incoherent ramblings and clanging. I think he's trying to say that the new plane is so much better that it puts Air Force One to shame, but I actually can't be sure.

They aren't going green because they believe in the cause, but because it makes economic sense.

And he values form over function. The current 747 may not be new or particularly "bling" but it has capabilities that the gold- bedecked flying palaces of the middle eastern potentates lack.

I wonder what caveats are bearied in the trade agreement with the EU. The supposed agreement for the EU to import $250 billion/yaer in energy from the USA would require, assuming that the USA didn't eliminate its exports to non-EU countries, the USA to more than double its energy exports while the EU would be quadrupling its energy imports from the USA.
I would not be surprised if the "deal" is vetoed fairly sharpish. The French hate it, and Merz is getting it hard in the neck from the German business community for agreeing to such a bad deal.

I recall reading in a technical magazine (possibly this link) that an alternative to refitting the Qatari plane is to accept it as is, and use it as a parts plane for the next generation of aircraft that will serve as Air Force One: "There is the possibility that the Qatari 747-8i could end up being used as a source of spare parts for the future VC-25Bs, as well as the 747-based E-4C Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) strategic command post aircraft the Air Force is also acquiring." My understanding is that these are slated for delivery in 2027.

That's a part-way sensible solution for it. But Donny wants to keep it when he "retires" after playing at being president. So he will be SO disappointed when he is given this:

The Qatari gift plane IS a Boeing 747.

That would be a rational line of thought. Trump wants it in his library so it's going on his library.

Those capabilities are aftermarket additions that the Air Force would have to make either way.

It would be different if Boeing had actually un-assed the new version ten years ago like they were supposed to. It's a sad day when an oil prince has more Air Force 1s in his back pocket than an American aerospace giant has in their entire inventory.

Almost correct. No payment to an extortionist is ever going to be final. But what makes you think only four years?
Well, Trump will only last 4 years. And he was unique for MAGA. Trump is not going to groom a Trump II. So what is left is some sort of US II. It will probably be weaker. Also the presidency, will be weaker. No immunity.
So who runs it? Corporations.

An oligarchy is what the Tech/crypto Bros are wanting.

Curiously, the people who hate the elites will be run by elites with even more power.
