That is what should be done, by all means return the stripped out plane to Trump. Actually what should happen is the next President should sign an EO on day one stating that.... Should then sign one charging Trump for all the vandalism Trump has done to the Golden House, indeed the next President could have so much fun, start everyday with a new EO tearing down everything Trump did.

Do they honestly believe this ?

I get that "lock them up" can be used as a rhetorical device to whip up the base and to generate outrage but do the vast majority of Republican members of congress really now believe that the 2020 election was stolen, that there's a vast anti-Trump Deep State conspiracy and that all of those people genuinely belong in Guantanamo Bay for crimes committed against the US ?

I get that there are "characters" like MTG and Boebert who seem to be to be looney tunes and that the more recently elected GOP congresscritters have been elected on a MAGA ticket and so are much more likely to be fully on board with the MAGA message but there are members who have been there for decades and/or who represent purple districts or states, do they also believe all of this stuff ?

The big lie works. For an example closer to home look how the Tory's constant refrain about it being Labour who crashed the economy in 2008 worked.
 
It's more weird/American than that: it's an attempt at Manifesting, The Secret and all that BS: Clinton isn't a pedophile, but they made it stick long enough to lose an election. There were no WMDs in Iraq, but the NeoCons made it stick long enough to execute an invasion. The US is not being exploited by other Nations, but Trump made it stick long enough to force everyone into painful Tarifs.
It's the Conservative version of Quantum Fluctuations: as long as it's there when you need it, who cares if it existed before or after?

That's also not an exclusively US issue, although for the UK it had more to do with Blair's relationship with G.W. Bush and his desire to stay tight with the US to maintain international relevance. It was a Labour government that took us into Iraq, but when the Tories kept reminding people of that they omit to mention that there was widespread revolt in the Labour back benches against it and our involvement was only passed through Parliament because the Conservative Party voted en mass with the government.

Doubtless the big lie works, but do the proponents of the big lie actually believe it, or do they consider it a rhetorical device ?

Until comparatively recently I might have used hyperbolic statements about right wing opinions relating to women, blacks and Irish knowing in my heart of hearts that this was likely a minority view held by more extreme members. That said, IMO the Overton Window has moved so much in the last 5 years that my hyperbolic statements are more likely to hold true.

Do the vast majority of the Conservative Party MPs honestly believe that Labour crashed the economy (or that immigrants are responsible for most of the ills the UK is experiencing) or do they acknowledge that this is a useful narrative but that it's not factually true ?

I think there are 3 types:
- those who do believe is true
- those who by choosing to believe think it will become true
- those who think it's false, but go along because the result suits them - they might become believers later when the lie works better than their wildest expectations

The net effect is the same for all
