Cuomo defeated in NYC Democratic Mayoral Primary

I did not accuse you.

But someone here did suggest that when I was talking about Italian voters, I must have been referring to people on Long Island.

Nobody who knows anything about the region thinks that people anywhere in New York City are part of the community known as Long Island.
You were replying to me.

Anyways, somebody suggested that the Italian voters are on Long Island. Long Island does not get to vote in the New York city mayor election.

Yes. That was my point. The people who would be upset by insulting Columbus moved their some time ago.

There are lots of Italians in New York City.

Yes. But either they are a) not going to be offended by his comments because they know Columbus was a scumbag or b) are the type to be offended by that but were very unlikely to vote for him in the first place.

So you are basically concern-trolling over a demographic he's unlikely to get anyway.

This discussion is about a election in New York City.

Not Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Get a clue.

And FYI, people who live in Brooklyn and Queens are never referred to as Long Islanders. Jeeze, if you don't know anything about this issue maybe stop discussing it.
Kings County and Queens County are boroughs of New York City and they are physically located on the piece of land known as "Long Island." Now it is entirely possible, even fairly likely, that Kookbreaker meant "Staten Island," since that is the borough with the largest percentage of Italian American voters. But it is YOU who began this silly diversion with your insultingly superior response "One should be at least somewhat familiar with the boundaries of New York City before discussing this issue." Because the boundaries of New York City do not match the common parlance, and even if they did, such a snarky riposte would be offensive.

So if clues are being handed out, swallow your pride and see if one fits.

Dude, I already said what I meant. Please don't make corrections on my behalf that I don't ask for.

Don't accuse me of trolling.

Sorry, in this fast moving train wreck, I posted before seeing yours.

It is true, after all, that although the overall percentage of Italian Americans in New York City is somewhere a bit shy of 9 percent, it is closer to 25 percent in Staten Island, such that one might well consider a position offensive to Italian Americans would have a negative impact on the Staten Island vote, although far less on the total New York vote. Thus a position taken by Mamdani might well be destructively offensive to Italian American voters, but might also well be politically harmless or even expedient given the demographics of the rest of the city.

That said, I apologize for intruding on your point, which is, if I get it right, that part of the reason there are so few Italians in NYC is that they already got out, which I have no reason to doubt.

OK, No worries.

My thinking is also that any Italian American who would be offended by him saying Columbus was bad probably wasn't likely to vote for him in the first place. Others would probably think it wasn't an unwarranted comment or not worth making a fuss about.

Overall, I'd say given how perceptions of Columbus have changed over the years I think Mamdani would lose more voters if he apologized than he could ever possibly gain simping to a voting block that wouldn't vote for him anyway.

Pretty much, yes. I made the comparison with the Rizzo statue in Philly. Nobody cared but some suburbanites. The famous Philly Italian Market is as Italian as Saigon these days.

Mamdani says he will not use the phrase "globalize the Intifada" and will discourage others from using it. This shows the man has integrity and takes this race seriously.

To me it shows the opposite: Moon Moon an unserious clown that spouts whatever retarded slogans without giving them much thought, and lacks the integrity to stand by what he believes in when he realizes it doesn't play well outside his bubble of sycophants and fellow-travelers.

If he had integrity? If he took this race seriously as a contest of ideas and values, rather than as a cynical power grab? He'd explain what he means by "globalize the Intifada", why he thinks it's important, and why he thinks we should join him in this call to action. And then let the votes fall where they may.

Honestly every single policy proposal I've seen from him so far seems profoundly unserious.
