Cuomo defeated in NYC Democratic Mayoral Primary

I’m sure he’s very concerned about losing the Long Islander vote.
One should be at least somewhat familiar with the boundaries of New York City before discussing this issue.

You may want to bow out before you embarrass yourself further.

Probably meant Staten Island.

It pertained to Mamdani alienating Italian voters.
Yes, and my supposed diversion was to point out that if that is the case, it is the fault of those alienated Italian voters, who are displaying a stubborn refusal to abandon nation and culture specific myths and loyalties that in any other group would be censured for their insistence on diversity, the more so because those myths are historically suspect. If the decision was (as it well might be) impolitic in the short view, it does not mean it was wrong or impolitic in the larger view, any more than you could call it impolitic to alienate Confederate sympathizers by dissing Robert E. Lee, or Islamic radicals by dissing Bin Laden.

Or you may want to review your New York City geography, because Brooklyn and Queens are on Long Island!
This discussion is about a election in New York City.

Not Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Get a clue.

And FYI, people who live in Brooklyn and Queens are never referred to as Long Islanders. Jeeze, if you don't know anything about this issue maybe stop discussing it.

Jesus, of all the silly nits to pick. Long Island includes parts of NY City but sure, when folks are talking about Long Island, almost nobody is talking about Queens or Brooklyn. So yes, Mamdani cares about some Long Island voters' votes but not all them. Maybe its different in NY proper but can we just move on.

The point just sailed over your head.

I'm not the one being a fool here.
I'm not the one who thinks people who live in Brooklyn and Queens, are "Long Islanders". Truly idiotic to make such a statement and shows incredible ignorance about the region.

Since I apparently need to explain my comment to more people that I really should have to:

"Alienating the Italian-American community in the city" is actually hard to do these days (I mean, its certainly do-able). Calling Columbus a horrible person isn't really going to do it. Partly because the faction of that community that would be upset about it moved out of the city decades ago and what is left is mostly not defensive about Columbus.

About 5 years ago Philadelphia removed the statue of Rizzo that was downtown.
There was the inevitable cry that the move would "offend the Italian-American community"
My reply was "oh noes! The Mayor of Philadelphia might lose the South Jersey vote!"
Sure enough, the majority of complaints about the move came from out-of-towners
The Italian-Americans in the city (a younger demographic) had long-ago learned Rizzo wasn't worth fighting over.

No, as he is running for mayor of New York City he does not care about Long Island votes as he is not seeking any vote from Long Island or looking to be mayor of anywhere on Long Island.

Nobody, literally nobody considers Brooklyn and Queens to be part of Long Island. Suggesting that they are part of Long Island shows incredible ignorance about the region.

When exactly did I say that?
I did not accuse you.

But someone here did suggest that when I was talking about Italian voters, I must have been referring to people on Long Island.

Nobody who knows anything about the region thinks that people anywhere in New York City are part of the community known as Long Island.
