Cuomo defeated in NYC Democratic Mayoral Primary

It belongs in a separate thread. Make one and I will gladly give you my thoughts.
Why does it belong in a separate thread? It is a direct and specific issue regarding Mamdani's candidacy in the race under discussion, and in principle relevant not only to his candidacy but that of any naturalized citizen for any office anywhere, and peripherally relevant to the question of whether it is appropriate for the Federal government to intervene in local elections. Insofar as it has been brought up in this context it is certainly relevant to the Mamdani candidacy, and ultimately to the future of democratic government as we have known it, and I believe to pretend it is not is a great mistake (or worse if one is less kind).

Anyway, right now it's in this thread because it's been put here, and if it's deemed off topic, so be it, but until that time, here it is. Separate thread not needed.

Not really. That's a bit like claiming the underlying claim of an accusation of theft is that nobody else had stolen anything. Fairly silly accusation. The underlying claim is that checking the wrong box matters. I say know but I'm not sure what evidence I can bring to bear that would "prove" that.
let's put it like this:
It is a claim that this is the most important question of the election.

I feel it is not related to the OP, and i dont want any more posts moved to AAH, so i will not be addressing this issue in this thread. If you want my opinion, and I definitely have one, make a new thread.

I definitely do not object to reading threads from which your opinions are absent.

This thread is mostly about consequences of Mamdani's victory in the primary. Here are some of those consequences:
  • President Trump has threatened to arrest Mamdani if Mamdani is, in Trump's opinion, insufficiently supportive of ICE operations.
  • President Trump is calling Mamdani a "communist".
  • President Trump has given credence to false claims that Mamdani is in the country illegally.
  • President Trump has hinted that he is giving serious consideration to calls for revoking Mamdani's US citizenship in order to deport Mamdani.
It is therefore appropriate to discuss those things in this thread.

That's just my opinion, of course. Here is another of my opinions: Should someone regard discussion of those matters as off-topic for this thread, the appropriate course of action is to click on the "Report" button instead of polluting the thread by going on and on about their opinions regarding what is or is not appropriate to discuss in this thread.

That's cool, its a free country.

Just dont harrass me by asking me again and again and again and again and again to address an issue I clearly would rather discuss in a different thread.

Some people just have bug bears about things other people don't have a problem with. Mine's misplaced apostrophes.
With my highlighting:

I promise not to harass you again and again and again and again and again about apostrophes, spelling of proper nouns, spelling of ordinary verbs, or hyper-redundancy.

A couple of weeks ago, US representative Andy Ogles (of Tennessee) wrote:
Zohran ‘little muhammad’ Mamdani is an antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York. He needs to be DEPORTED. Which is why I am calling for him to be subject to denaturalization proceedings.
According to Ogles and other right-wing voices, the legal justification for deporting Mamdani is that Mamdani failed to check a box or otherwise disclose on his Form N-400 that he was a communist, supported communism, has ever had positive things to say about communism, or (heaven forfend!) might have held private beliefs that fall short of condemning communism with the enthusiasm and vigor demanded by those right-wing voices.

As seen in the quotation above, however, their real reason for calling for Mamdani's deportation is their opinion that "Mamdani is an antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York."

It seems to me that the opinion I highlighted in the previous sentence is a statement of political differences, not a legitimate reason for deportation. But that's just my opinion, which might be influenced by my opinion of Ogles and his fellow travelers.

No I think this is more about Zohran promising to freeze everyone's rent and other magical things that in reality cannot happen.
He didn’t promise to freeze everyone’s rent, and what he did campaign on (rent freezes for rent-stabilized apartments) is well within the mayor’s power. The Rent Guidelines Board is nominally independent, but its members are appointed by the mayor.

So you’ve chosen exactly the wrong issue to accuse him of promising “magical” things that can’t happen.

Instead, Herc has accidentally accused the mayor of planning to stack a nominally independent committee in favor of his politics. Something progressives supposedly hated with the hate of a thousand suns.

Is he planning on firing everyone on the rent stabilization board and nominating all new people who will do whatever he wants? If that is the case then I guess he could freeze the rent for all rent stabilized apartments.

And then all of those buildings will not get the maintenance and repairs that they need. I don't see anything wrong with rent increases matching inflation unless inflation is insanely high.

It really seems like Megamind's entire campaign is based on promising things that no sane electorate would want him to deliver.

The real question is whether the people celebrating his candidacy are too stupid to realize how stupid he is, too invested in The Cause to admit how stupid their spokesidiot is, or too cynical to care, as long as it puts money in their pocket.

The Democratic Socialists fit into the first two categories, and the renters slot quite neatly into the last.

Actually Herc got that part right:

It's not unusual for a New York City mayor to support temporarily pausing rent increases on the city's nearly one million rent-stabilized units, which make up about half of all rental apartments and house more than 2 million people. But Mamdani has gone a step further, promising to replace the members of the Rent Guidelines Board with individuals committed to freezing rents every year of his term.
In the Facebook video he mentions that the terms of eight of the nine members of the RGB are currently up and that he will only appoint those who agree with him on freezing the rent (I assume that the DSA will be well-represented).

Cuomo to announce he WILL run as an Independent. Dem vote will be split at least three ways: Mamdani, Cuomo, Adams.

Sliwa has a real shot.

Gives Cuomo a very good argument to stay in the race; he's the only one who can save the city. Pardon me while I spew chunks.
