Who should run for the Dems?

The way I see it now (and this could change over night) is the likely candidates in order IMO that can possibly have a chance:

1. Cory Booker
2. Whitmer
3 Mark Kelly (dark horse but they have won before)
4. Newsom
5. Jeffries (if Dems get the House back in midterms)
6. Schiff
7. AOC
8. Sanders (probably too old and left for America at large)
9. Mayor Pete (I think he would be a great president but we're just not ready for a gay one at this point in history)
10. George Clooney
11. Jared Polis (Colorado Governor)
I still reckon the party establishent will try to impose somebody like Liz Cheney. She's the perfect candidate for them.

I'm reasonably sure I've heard democrats say all those thing.
Yes, but you don't remember where or when a Democratic leader said any of those things.
Are you also reasonably sure that you heard Kamala Harris say that it was nonsense to claim that you can "do both," i.e. extract more fossil fuels than ever and put a stop to anthropogenic global warming simultaneously?
ETA: also, "you can't say [x] any more" is a very Republican thing to say.
Interesting, but what has that got to do with anything?

Problem is you don't want to come off as being as extreme as the GOP. You want to look like the sane person in the room.
And the hell there is not any middle to appeal to anymore. The swing, moderate voters sitll have the balance of power, as much as the ideologues hate to admit that.
There is no middle to appeal to anymore, so that's the segment you should appeal to!
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Appeal to the moderate segment of voters in between the Cheneys and the fascists, as if that strategy hadn't been tried in 2024.

Based mainly on the co/efficient survey (see post 348):
AOC Surges To TOP As New Poll Reveals Stunning Democratic Reality Check (The Damage Report on YouTube, May 25, 2025 - 5:13 min.)
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez surges to the top in new poll over who the American public sees as the new face of Democratic party leadership, with Bernie Sanders coming in second, proving the need for AOC to be considered for top party positions.

National Approval Study (co/efficient, May 7 to 9, 2025)
Face of the Democratic Party
AOC 26%
Bernie Sanders 12%
Jasmine Crockett 8%
Kamala Harris 6%
Pete Buttigieg 5%
Hakeem Jeffries 5%
Cory Booker 4%
Gavin Newsom 2%
---
No one 26%
Other 22%

AOC would be better than any Republican - they have disqualified themselves by supporting someone who wipes his arse with the Constitution he and they sworn to uphold.
But so would basically everyone.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's numbers are impressive!

Poll: AOC Surges to ‘New Face of the Dem Party’ (Secular Talk on YouTube, May 22, 2025 - 7:58 min.)

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Warns Republicans That There Will be Consequences for Cutting Medicaid (RepAOC on YouTube, May 22, 2025 - 2:08 min.)

And Ben Shapiro is helping her, albeit not deliberately:
AOC continues to think she's an influencer (Ben Shapiro on YouTube)
She's Hispanic and a woman. IMO even if she had policies which resonated with 80% of the electorate, people would still find a way not to be sure about her, her experience or her performance under pressure and vote for the white fundamental Christian man running for the GOP instead.

It is difficult to imagine a left-wing politician as extreme as the current GOP. Right now they are trying to make it illegal for judges to enforce rulings against the government if the plaintiff is poor, slashing Medicaid funding to pay for tax cuts to billionaires, and I dont even know what since I haven't checked in the last half hour. AOC is only really a left-winger in our heavily distorted Overton window. In Europe, she would be a moderate.

And where are the vaunted moderates anyway? We keep being told the Democrats have to appeal to the moderate voters, but Republicans seem to do fine without them. Dig into the numbers and we have a liberal block, a conservative block, and a bunch of low-information voters who chase after the latest distraction. The man who votes against Harris because she didn't do enough to fight inflation and votes for Trump, whose clearly stated policy agenda will increase inflation, is not a "moderate", but a dumb-ass.
The moderates are already inhabiting the left wing of the Democratic Party. The Democrats and GOP are fighting over conservative right wingers, just not the racist religious fundamentalists - the GOP have those locked in.
