The Truth about RFK Jr

On 19 May 2025 at SBM David Gorski discussed an essay by James Lyons-Weiler. Dr. Gorski wrote, "One thing you must remember about these ethical principles [discussed in the preceding paragraphs] is that they govern only human subjects research. That means more than just randomized clinical trials. It means preliminary trials, observational studies, or any study in which the experimentation might cause significant harm to research subjects. Again, though, it does not mean medical practice. It does not mean standard-of-care medical interventions, like approved vaccines. Does that stop JLW? Of course not. It just motivates him to find a way to misrepresent the vaccination program as experimental. Again, longtime readers will not find this to be surprising. Antivaxxers have been misrepresenting the childhood vaccination program as “experimental” almost as long as I’ve been paying attention...I could see a “tweak” such as saddling vaccines with a label of “experimental” until some onerous postlicensure process had occurred might be the next step in the dismantling of the US federal vaccination program. Make no mistake. That is the endgame here, no matter how much RFK Jr. lies when he says he doesn’t want to take vaccines away from anyone who wants them."
Going from "vaccines kill" to "the vaccines are experimental and more research, preferably RCTs, is needed" is the anti-vaxxer version of creationism --> intelligent design.

CNN reported, "In a discussion shared online Tuesday, Prasad answered some questions about the new requirements that were posed to him by Makary. “This is a free country, and companies are, of course, free to conduct their own randomized studies in younger populations, in people without risk factors for severe Covid-19,” Prasad said. “They can run the research agenda they see fit, and we will consider the results of those studies.”

What a pile of drivel.

At SBM Mark Crislip wrote, "Then my feeds noted there was an E. coli outbreak in 15 states that killed one and sickened at least 88. The CDC told no one. Holy Bad Word. So what follows is a quick one (while I am away)...Thank Febris for the CDC. Experts are available 24/7 to help with diagnosis and appropriate therapy. The last thing you want as a clinician is a patient dying because of a lack of experience. With the CDC at your back, that was never the case. Other rare parasites I saw over the years that the CDC was incredibly helpful were Leshmania and Trypanosoma. The only place for proper diagnosis and access to medications is the CDC...The CDC and the MMWR are invaluable for information on what infections are happening where and why. As a clinician, you rely on the CDC is a resource of epidemiological data without which you could not practice ID...I cannot imagine providing care to the odd cases that came my way without their help. But that looks to be a real possibility going forward. Invaluable knowledge and expertise is being shed at the CDC and Co., like a cybertruck panal."

MedPageToday reported, "The much-anticipated "Make America Healthy Again (MAHA)" report calls for increased scrutiny of the childhood vaccine schedule, a review of the pesticides sprayed on American crops, and a description of the nation's children as overmedicated and undernourished. While it does not have the force of a law or official policy, the 69-page report will be used over the next 100 days for the MAHA commission to fashion a plan that can be implemented during the remainder of President Donald Trump's term, Kennedy said in a call with reporters. He refused to provide details about who authored the report."

NPR reported, ""They make a great diagnosis and they have a very weak treatment plan," says Dr. Philip Landrigan, a professor of pediatrics at Boston College. "It's impossible to read this report and not think about the disconnect between the noble words in this report and the reality of what the Kennedy team is doing on the ground to EPA and CDC and the National Institutes of Health.""

The Guardian reported, "For instance, Kennedy eliminated two smoking prevention offices at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in what one former regulator told Stat was “the greatest gift to the tobacco industry in the last half century”. He also eliminated a world-leading sexually transmitted infection laboratory...However, the exact authors of the report are unknown. This contrasts with Kennedy’s repeated promise at his confirmation hearing that his health department would practice “radical transparency”."

The members of the MAHA commission include "
(vi) the Director of the Office of Management and Budget;
(vii) the Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy;
(viii) the Director of the National Economic Council;"

Number 6 is Russell Vought; Number 7 above is Stephen Miller; Number 8 is Kevin Hassett.

Just reas about the first MAHA report.
Be afriad, be very afraid.
Only good thing is RFK is going to make himself very unpopular if tries to carry though. Telling American what they can and cannot eat will get you nowhere.

Don't worry, it won't come to that. The only things that will have power will be the things removing vaccines, banning treatments and stopping anti-smoking and so on.

Any healthy eating messages will be purely advisory and likely some version of a fad diet.

I’m just glad I’m nowhere near that place.
The first trump administration was ◊◊◊◊◊◊ hilarious to watch. This one not so much.
More horrifying are the friends and neighbours that are spouting trumpisms over here in oz.
