Supreme Court ruled we have a right to an education, but how does a person access education if they are deported?...

All US residents have a right to an education. But you seem to think if they are Jews its ok to block them from getting to class.

I'm ok with the KKK occupying a quad while protesting, as long as they are non-violent. I don't like anythinng about them, what they stand for, or what they do, but as long as they aren't violating the law, it's a first amendment right for them to protest.
LOL!!!!

You would never accept the KKK occupying a quad and preventing black students from walking through it to get to class. You'd call for them to be violently dealt with by Antifa.

all law breakers should be arrested.
And yet, the ones you get in a froth about are the oens being assaulted.
More lies.
The phrease "outside agitators" was coined by segregationists to discredit the Civil Rights movements
Actually the supreme Court has ruled that we do have a right to an education.
How nice for them. Sounds like the universities should be addressing that. Not state enforcers
So you're ok with the KKK occupying the quad and preventing black people from using it to get to class?
OK with it? No. But, if they are students, faculty, or staff, I'd say they had a right to be there. I'd expect the university to act accordingly.
LOL!!!!

They sent in the military????
They sent in New York City's armed enforcers.
What cartoon were you watching?
The Eric Adams Babble Hour
Seriously bro, take a chill pill. This is ridiculous hysteria.
Ya, its just the constitution. And governments always stop with the first group of protestors. Never goes further than that.

Citizens have a right to an education, correct. How are the protests stopping that? People can push through a protest or go around it.

Even KKK has a right to non-violent protest.

So Jews should have to PUSH their way through a crowd of violent Hamas-lovers to get to class?

Wow.

And no, the KKK has no right to protest in a way that violates MY rights.

I've been approaching this wrong. Clearly, none of us are legal experts, and you've shown to be unaccepting of any arguments on any legal basis. Let's narrow this to the question:
Should the government be allowed to deport a non-citizen because they didn't like what that non-citizen said about the government?

So Jews should have to PUSH their way through a crowd of violent Hamas-lovers to get to class?

How do you know they are violent? How is their free speech violating rights?

You don't really have a right to the fastest route to class. I've had to change my route to work because of protests, construction, whatever.

Anyway, this thread is about what Democrats did wrong in the 2024 election, not about scratching centrists.

Columbia was clearly unable to handle the situation, so they called in the police department to deal with students and outsiders who clearly were violating the law and college policies.

Or are you now saying you are opposed to the police going in to stop the January 6th rioters too????

How do you know they are violent? How is their free speech violating rights?
If you are using your body to prevent me from engaging in my constitutionally protected activity of getting education, with an unsanctioned protest activity, you are using violence.

If you prevent me from walking down the hallway by standing in my way, you are using violence.

Huh.

So how many walkways are these protesters allowed to block before it becomes a violation of my civil rights??

If there are only 10 ways to get to class, and the only way available is to walk half a mile around the entire campus, are my rights being violated????

Of course they are.

If the KKK was doing such a thing to prevent black students from getting to class or get to work, you would be calling for Antifa to kick ass.

But because the victim here are Jewish students you don't give a damn.

It is an absolute strawman to say that those here that support the 1st ammendment are anti-semetic. Nice try, but you aren't tricking anyone here.

a person who got there before you that is occupying the space you wish to occupy isn't a violation of your civil rights.

You don't support the first amendment if you believe that protesters can engage in an illegal unsanctioned protest, and use their bodies to prevent students from getting to class, because they appear to belong to a certain ethnicity or nationality.

Your right to protest ends where my nose begins, and colleges have the right to make sure protests do not violate the rights of other people. Students do not have the right to barge into classrooms and shut down the class, or shut down speaker events, just because they think that Hamas is cool.

There is a legal and civil and proper way to engage in protest, even in support of disgusting agendas and groups.

And then there's the other way which clearly deserves to be sanctioned and possibly lead to arrest.

If you disagree then you are in support of the KKK and the January 6th insurrectionists.

Columbia was clearly unable to handle the situation,
there really wasn't a big problem until the enforcers showed up. According to the timeline from the Columbia student newspaper, the contentiousness seems to be about Columbia changing their stance regarding peaceful protests specifically for this protest. Looks like the fake tough guy act the administration attempted escalated the situation
so they called in the police department to deal with students and outsiders who clearly were violating the law and college policies.
In violation of Columbia's own rules. And of course, the NYPD had to escalate the situation.
Or are you now saying you are opposed to the police going in to stop the January 6th rioters too????
You mean the rioters who actually showed up armed and tried to kill people?

It is against school policy to take over the quad and use it for a long-term protest space. And use that protest space to ban people from getting to class because of what they look like.

Protesters also use their bodies to ban student from walking down certain walkways to get to class. None of this complies with college policy and violates the civil Rights act.

If you want to protest do it properly and do it legally. Otherwise you should be arrested or at least suspended from school and removed from the property.

If you don't like the ground rules of civil disobedience don't participate. Civil disobedience includes the possibility of being kicked out of school and arrested.

Nobody showed up armed and wanted to kill people.

You're hysterical hyperbole is starting to look concerning.

Columbia protest rules do not allow the students to do what they were doing, Columbia was not able to end this situation so they called the local police to deal with it.

If you are going to engage in civil disobedience there are consequences.

Oh, did you think you should have the right to engage in civil disobedience which restricts the rights of other people without any consequences?? Pooor babies. :)

If Colombia students want to protest there is a legal and proper in civil way to do it.

If instead what they want to do is cause trouble and getting people's way then there are consequences. Time for them to grow up and deal with it.

Protesters were actually trying to leave. The obstruction actually was because of the officers. If not for the officers, student would've had acces.

They broke the law they broke school policy, and now it was time for them to face some consequences.

There are consequences when you engage in illegal civil disobedience that violates School regulations.

They can cry and call Daddy if they want.
