I'm ok with the KKK occupying a quad while protesting, as long as they are non-violent. I don't like anythinng about them, what they stand for, or what they do, but as long as they aren't violating the law, it's a first amendment right for them to protest.

Columbia was clearly unable to handle the situation, so they called in the police department to deal with students and outsiders who clearly were violating the law and college policies.

Or are you now saying you are opposed to the police going in to stop the January 6th rioters too????

You don't support the first amendment if you believe that protesters can engage in an illegal unsanctioned protest, and use their bodies to prevent students from getting to class, because they appear to belong to a certain ethnicity or nationality.

Your right to protest ends where my nose begins, and colleges have the right to make sure protests do not violate the rights of other people. Students do not have the right to barge into classrooms and shut down the class, or shut down speaker events, just because they think that Hamas is cool.

There is a legal and civil and proper way to engage in protest, even in support of disgusting agendas and groups.

And then there's the other way which clearly deserves to be sanctioned and possibly lead to arrest.

If you disagree then you are in support of the KKK and the January 6th insurrectionists.

According to the timeline from the Columbia student newspaper, the contentiousness seems to be about Columbia changing their stance regarding peaceful protests specifically for this protest. Looks like the fake tough guy act the administration attempted escalated the situation

so they called in the police department to deal with students and outsiders who clearly were violating the law and college policies.

In violation of Columbia's own rules. And of course, the NYPD had to escalate the situation.

It is against school policy to take over the quad and use it for a long-term protest space. And use that protest space to ban people from getting to class because of what they look like.

Protesters also use their bodies to ban student from walking down certain walkways to get to class. None of this complies with college policy and violates the civil Rights act.

If you want to protest do it properly and do it legally. Otherwise you should be arrested or at least suspended from school and removed from the property.

If you don't like the ground rules of civil disobedience don't participate. Civil disobedience includes the possibility of being kicked out of school and arrested.

Columbia protest rules do not allow the students to do what they were doing, Columbia was not able to end this situation so they called the local police to deal with it.

If you are going to engage in civil disobedience there are consequences.

If Colombia students want to protest there is a legal and proper in civil way to do it.

They broke the law they broke school policy, and now it was time for them to face some consequences.

There are consequences when you engage in illegal civil disobedience that violates School regulations.

They can cry and call Daddy if they want.
