Trump's Second Term

The whistleblower claims "an agency assistant chief information officer (ACIO) told him that DOGE aides would be given accounts “with essentially unrestricted permission to read, copy, and alter data.” Creation of such accounts was not standard operating procedure, but the ACIO said those rules must be ignored and the opening of the accounts was not to be logged.

On March 11, while examining logs, Berulis says he noticed a huge spike in outside login attempts being blocked - in particular one with an IP address that has the Primorskiy Krai region in Russia's Far East listed as its location.

The person was trying to log into an account that had been set up for one of the DOGE aides, Berulis claimed. The login attempts started within 15 minutes of the account being established, and used the correct username and password, he told Congress. The login attempts were blocked because the agency does not allow access to its systems from overseas.

Hope it's not old news. I have trouble keeping up.

NOBODY could have predicted that. :sarcasm:

I take it Trump is now going to pardon all those imprisoned spies who passed US secrets to Russia in the past? Pat them on the head and offer them a job in DOGE?

That's quite something. My initial assumption would be that (competent) bad actors have hacked at least one of Musk's minions so as soon as he gets issued an account, the bad guys have the login details too.

Turns out infosec is non-trivial and it looks like the junior chainsaw gang are too busy ignoring other departments security protocols and lack the competence to keep one eye over their own shoulder while they do it.

WTF is this?

The Trump regime is now using US Attorneys to intimidate academic journals by sending them letters demanding they explain how they ensure ‘viewpoint diversity.’ Journal editors should be public about this and coordinate to refuse to comply with these fascist tactics.

Dear AG Martin:

Go ◊◊◊◊ your face.

Sincerely,

Me.

As the saying goes, "Amateurs hack systems, professionals hack people." My guess is that the Russians found a minion and bought him (or her or whatever) off or threatened him or convinced him that they were the good guys. No computer skills needed.

It would also be surprising to absolutely no one if one of Musk's script kiddies ended up being compromised by the Russians or, as you said, just in league with them willingly.

I know we give the GOP a lot of ◊◊◊◊ around here, but I'm actually genuinely surprised more of them aren't starting to get concerned. A lot of the fossils in congress grew up during the cold war and the perpetual fear of Russia. To watch them all roll over and show their bellies without a whimper is a bit surprising. Even for the "conservatives" here and elsewhere in general. They tried to pass themselves off as having a moral compass, and sticking up for conservative values but there's no way they can even take themselves seriously anymore. The current GOP, and their supporters, are going to be recognized in the history books as the biggest group of losers and bitch boys in history. Worse than way back in Germany because we had history to guide us.

It won't be long until native born U.S. citizens, critical of Trump and this administation's policies on social media, are snatched up and held by ICE.

I stopped taking that party seiously when they made it the trumpublic party. However, I do take their threat to this republic seriously.

I'm hearing some folks defend the deportation and imprisonment of that fella from Maryland by calling him a wife beater/gang banger. I don't ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ care. He could be a serial killer, the point of due process isn't to make sure the monster has their day in court, its to make sure we can differentiate the monster from the not monster.

I even accept the notion that Biden's lack of action on illegal immigration created fairly extraordinary conditions, don't care, due ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ process, rule of law......etc.

This is not farfetched when you consider that one of the initial DOGE bros was previously dismissed from his internship for giving confidential information to a competitor. At the time we covered this, the point was that such behavior would ordinarily disqualify you from working with secret government information because it's evidence that you can be bought. Now that we're looking at Russian actors getting access to our most sensitive information, it becomes salient that people in Musk's circle have demonstrated that they can be bought.

Can you clarify for me, what "lack of action" are we referring to? According to everything I'm reading deportations are almost exactly the same now as when Biden was in office. Did I miss some huge change that Biden made that, somehow, encouraged, promoted or enhanced protections for illegal immigrants? I'm genuinely curious cause I see "centrists" and "conservatives" say this all the time but I never know what policy of Biden's that's being referenced.

It's not the number of deportations that are in question, it's the number of illegal crossings. And some of that is more than just Biden v Trump, but there is no question that there was a huge surge of illegal crossings while Biden was in office, and a huge drop since Trump took office. Decent summary here:

Thanks, but even that doesn't help much. This quote:
Illegal crossings along the U.S. southern border have been trending downward over the past year, including under the Biden administration, after spiking to an all-time high in late 2023.

They first dropped in early 2024 after Mexican officials expanded efforts to stop migrants from reaching the U.S. border and then fell further in the summer following former President Biden's move to sharply restrict access to the asylum system.

It says that Trump has shut down the app to help immigrants track, and that he sent the military down there to help, but again, I don't see any policy that Biden made that encouraged people to cross. Oh well, I won't derail any further because it doesn't mean much to me, but I still think it's a hollow accusation against Biden.

Yes! The Trump plan of turning the US into a totalitarian Hellhole that no one would want to live in is working!
