US vs everyone else tradewars

I’m even hearing Australians saying “Trump is a businessman who understands what’s involved in running a business”.

Well apart from the fact that running a business is light years from running a government, as others have pointed out, Trump is ◊◊◊◊ at running businesses. He far more adept at getting businesses to fail, declaring bankruptcy, and getting others to clean up the ◊◊◊◊ left behind.
 
So, the hand of the free market moved tons of jobs and production lines from the US to other countries so the US could have the cheapest things available.
Now tons of things are going to be more expensive, do GOP voters really think that now magically all that production is going to appear in the US again?
And once it's clear that it is not and that the rest of the world is willing to take an economic hit and re-align trade routes away from the US market rather than lick Trump's boots, why would anyone give the US it's special status again? The gratitude earned by the generation that fought the liberate the world in the 40's by now has been cashed in and burned.

And not even did the Greatest Generation actually know what it was doing. When asked, "We fought the Germans/Japanese." Rarely if ever was it said, outside textbooks, that the US clearly intended, as a nation and a people, to fight fascism or imperialism. After the war, it was all about "If not for us, you would be speaking German/Japanese/Russian." A tribal war. Meanwhile, Britain and France straight away renewed their colonial wars, and Americans embraced Jim Crow. It was not, sadly, a fight about values. Others encroached, they got pushed back.

Postwar, granted, the accolades and prevailing narratives celebrated the victory against political extremism, especially on the Left, until gradually it was all about Commies and caricatures. No lessons were learned, not by the broader population. The Civil Rights movement was resisted all the way, and the only way it somewhat triumphed was because the nation was embarrassed in the era of television.

Trump's business background qualifications far exceeds that of the movie stars, stage comedians, and business losers we've seen. Trump might be the best president the US has had since the end of WW II. He is making Americans proud again. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

It's a SNAFU so I've taken it out. But basically Trump has slapped a tariff on US territory Diego Garcia, as well as an island with zero population and also on Svalbard in which people are outnumbered by polar bears.

The penguins won't be happy!

Trump is a know-nothing. But hey, Russia, North Koreas, Belarus, et al, are let off. So you'll be delighted. Let's hope you don't have any pension funds that'll be wiped out when the stock markets open tomorrow morning. (Or perhaps they'll remain closed,)

Dear, dear.

Didn't the stock markets get the memo? They're supposed to be showing a bit of wartime spirit. Tighten their belts. Rally round the president's business genius. If they'd just keep their nerve and accept these temporary appalling losses, knowing they're doing their bit to support the dear leader, then everything might work out fine, eventually.

Why do these cowards act as if somehow it was their responsibility to invest the funds they control intelligently, instead of pissing it away enabling the president's mad schemes to play out?

I can remember Black Monday: thousands of people in the City lost their jobs overnight. I was working for a temp agency with an international bank and all the temps were the first to be rounded up and 'let go'. When I contacted my agency for a new placement, there weren't any and the agency itself virtually wound up not long after. It specialised in supplying work for Aussies, Kiwis and South Africans on working holidays in the UK. Their backpacking source of income dried up pronto. The whole thing was just surreal in how it all snowballed.

Wall Street in 1926 had people throwing themselves out of windows.

No problem. Even if my American pension is withdrawn my Russian pension is sufficient.

Surprised"? I don't know. Those countries will have to learn how to retaliate first. Then ...... maybe yeah. As it is right now they are sitting on their ears flogging themselves standing too close to the revolving doors that the Biden adminstratioon (read MIC) installed.
 
Sure, the islands with no living beings on them might need some time to learn how to retaliate. The rest of the world has already announced what is going to happen.
Still I guess I should save up to buy some of the soon to open real estate in the US to sell once a sane government tries to repair the untold damage about to occur for anyone not a Billionaire in the US.
