Who should run for the Dems?

Please explain how people without social security numbers pay federal taxes.

Thanks in advance.

Please explain why an illegal worker would file federal tax returns and pay federal taxes knowing they would expose themselves to detention and deportation by ICE.

Thanks in advance.
How would that expose them to ICE? IRS records are (or were until a week ago) only for the IRS. No other agency can access them without a warrant.

As for why: because the employer wants them to. The employer wants to show he is paying payroll tax for his workers and the workers are paying taxes. The IRS doesn't care beyond that.

I will say, he made quite an impression. I have only caught the highlights but he hit home with a lot of his remarks.

I hope this is a start of things to come and not the climax.

I hope so too.

I remember watching an awesome speech by Obama (I can't remember where, and maybe it was at the Democratic Convention, but it was before he ran for President), and after that, a lot of folks said he should run, and he did and won.

It's at least a good precedent, but I'm still hoping Al Franken will run in the future, if only to watch his debate, because it'll be like watching a live-action (real life) SNL skit.

Chances are Franken won't though, because a lot of people don't like him, but I can always hope, right?

I'm aware of the irony but he's a bit old. Also, I'm mildly amused that on SNL he portrayed presidential candidate and senator Paul Simon in a debate.

Guess how they are governing.

Wait, I thought it was to protect the kids? Why the change? And do you really expect me to be stupid enough to believe the people harping about this give a flying ◊◊◊◊ about fairness in women's sports? People who want to abolish Title IX? People who don't think rape really happens?

Here's what Pew research says are the top 10 issues people said they were voting on. Guess what you don't see. Go ahead, guess.

So why do you make it front and center of this discussion?
I didn't make it front and center, I was responding to posts by others. My point, perhaps not clear is not that that issue matters particularly but that is emblematic of the modern democratic party, they simply believe things almost nobody else does including most of their own voters. That is why it matters. It's an extension of Latinx. A term that only a vanishingly small percentage of people ever used but a group of people influential in the democratic party and one that seems completely unaware of that.

Republicans are the party of conspiracy theories and anti-vaxxerism. Tell me more about the weird things that Democrats believe.

For the most part I don't want republicans to get elected so I don't care what they they think about vaccines. I want a dem candidate with the widest appeal that has to be one who's willing side with 80% of the electorate.

Almost 50% of that electorate voted for conspiracy theories and anti-vaxxerism. That means they're aligned with those things or didn't care enough to not vote against them.

Either way, your insistence that Democrats lost because they didn't appeal to the sensible-minded concerns of voters is a fantasy.

Ah, the Lost Tribe theory. That there is a vast huge Left Wing vote hidden out there, and all it needs is the right candidate to bring it forth.
And your anlysis of the 2024 election is way too simplistic.

I haven't the first clue how you got that from either of my posts. Did you mean to quote someone else? Because in response to me, it reads like gibberish.

To get back to the Subject of this thread>
I think Cory Booker has just made the 2028 POTUS watch list.
Booker does have a lane open to him, particularly if the Democrats lead off with South Carolina again. But while resistance to Trump may be popular among Democrats today, whoever gets the nomination won't be running against Trump.

If Trump has his way, they will. Either way, they’ll be running against Trumpism because that’s all the Republican Party is now.

I think George Clooney needs to step up and run for President.

Americans are in thrall with the cult of personality (hence Trump), so the Democrats need someone really famous.

Do you agree, or do you have a better suggestion? Just kicking off the discussion Dems really need to have early, unlike last time.
Either Maxine Waters or Hank Johnson would be excellent candidates keeping within the Democratic Party philosphical parametres.

I would not be at all surprised if the DNC's preferred option would be for Liz Cheney to switch parties in preparation for a run. They're that obsessed with chasing the republitraitors down the rabbit hole.
