Trump's Second Term

I think it's given that the "we need Greenland for national security" is a lie and it is the natural resources Trump et al. want access to. I suspect they may be successful by bribing enough of the population of Greenland with promises of a share of all that wealth under their feet.

I don't think it's even about resources.

Donald has decided he wants it so he has to have it.

First term he spread Covid-19, this term it's a kowtow pandemic.

Exactly! He is like the kids who come into my shop and start screaming and stomping that they must have one of the plushies I have on display for the kids. Unfortunately, there is no parent to say "NO, you aint getting any more stuffed animals!"

That's OK, they'll be deported/re-educated once the USA has seized control.

Trump's friend Vlad can show him how to do it, just like he's done in the occupied parts of Ukraine.
Deported/reeducated? Maybe, but why go to that effort at the start? Removing ballot anonymity, holding guns at the ready as they closely watch the people vote, and demonstrating on video that blank ballots are being counted in favor of the occupying force seem like enough to flip that approval rating to Trump's favor.

They have an uphill battle if that's the plan, since supposedly 85% of the population is against Trump's proposals.
Well, I'm sure that our fearless leader will remember the wise words of his hero Robert E. Lee, who said "never fight uphill, me boys," or well, he should have, but the slope might change if the foe are not pure blooded white Americans.

Denmark's bullying tactics apparently

Vice President JD Vance
@VP

Denmark's leadership has failed the people of Greenland, and their bullying tactics won't change that.

Investment in Greenland's security is in America's best interest, and it will continue under President Trump.

And if we acquire Greenland, whether it's for "national security" or for its resources, what then? All we've done is added to the nation we need to secure and the resources we need to defend, and the next step would seem to be to "need" Iceland to guard those, and...so on. Before you know it, "America First!" is "All the world is America!"

I thought that was Obi Wan Kenobi? Lee was obviously copying him!

Isn't that how geography is already taught in 'Murika?

Yeah, there is a certain amount of parochialism involved in America First! ideology, but up till now, thinking that America should lead the world has never really (or at least so blatantly) extended to the idea that America should encompass it. There's a difference between a (debatable) claim to primacy and a claim to ownership.

ETA- to be clear, I do understand that "America First!" is more of an inward-looking desire to be left alone by the rest of the world than a wish (or a claim) to dominate it. That's why I find it so hard to comprehend the fact that so many of the same people who profess the one can also declare for the other.

I've seen a couple of alternate history timelines which amount to the USA effectively taking over the world, they very much assumed the USA was the best thing ever and everyone would be thrilled to be USAian.

The White House Correspondents' Association is cancelling its plans to have comedian Amber Ruffin headline this year's annual fundraising dinner.

"The WHCA board has unanimously decided we are no longer featuring a comedic performance this year. At this consequential moment for journalism, I want to ensure the focus is not on the politics of division but entirely on awarding our colleagues for their outstanding work and providing scholarship and mentorship to the next generation of journalists. Eugene Daniels"

Just yesterday, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budowich said

"This year’s WHCA dinner will be hosted by a 2nd rate comedian who is previewing the event by calling this administration “murderers” who want to “feel like human beings, but they shouldn’t get to feel that way, because you’re not”
What kind of responsible, sensible journalist would attend something like this? More importantly, what kind of company would sponsor such as hate-filled and violence-inspiring event?"

I am sure it had no influence on the WHCA

Rubio said he will continue to revoke visas for “people that are supportive of movements that run counter to the foreign policy of the United States.”
