The Truth about RFK Jr

HHS response to resignation, “If Peter Marks does not want to get behind restoring science to its golden standard and promoting radical transparency, then he has no place at FDA under the strong leadership of Secretary Kennedy.”
Kennedy can shove that ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ right up his ass.

The CDC Buried a Measles Forecast That Stressed the Need for Vaccinations (ProPublica, Mar 28, 2025)
The move — along with the CDC’s explanation — is a sign that the nation’s top public health agency may be falling in line under HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a longtime critic of vaccines.
(...)
But what the nation’s top public health agency said next shows a shift in its long-standing messaging about vaccines, a sign that it may be falling in line under Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a longtime critic of vaccines:
“The decision to vaccinate is a personal one,” the statement said, echoing a line from a column Kennedy wrote for the Fox News website. “People should consult with their healthcare provider to understand their options to get a vaccine and should be informed about the potential risks and benefits associated with vaccines.”
(...)
“I’m a bit stunned by that language,” Nuzzo said. “No vaccine is without risk, but that makes it sound like it’s a very active coin toss of a decision. We’ve already had more cases of measles in 2025 than we had in 2024, and it’s spread to multiple states. It is not a coin toss at this point.”
(...)
As parents near the outbreak in Texas stocked up on vitamin A supplements, doctors there raced to assure parents that only vaccination, not the vitamin, can prevent measles.
Still, the CDC added an entry on Vitamin A to its measles website for clinicians.

If you deny it, problem goes away! Some good comments in the thread.
Below that:I remember when Scott County, Indiana had an HIV outbreak and then Governor Pence took his time before finally approving clean needle exchanges. As a former heroin addict, RFK Jr should realize what a shortsighted, poor decision this is.

Except RFKJ was a WEALTHY heroin addict. He didn't need to share needles.
Meanwhile, the local weekly in my liberal little town has been running an op-ed by a token Republican. Last week she posited that RFK would do some good by imposing more regulation on Big Pharma. That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing but is laughably improbable in the "all regulatin is bad" world of modern-day Republicanism.
ETA: Link to the column.

Killing a million Americans last time wasn't enough for them, so now they're back for more. They really are like the uncaring colonial administration of some colony, determined to squeeze out as much profit as they can while wantonly inflicting cruelties on the population.

Not if you are elitist and racist. Don't bring the lifeboats back until the shouting dies down.

“Make America Healthy Again”: The new Lysenkoism (Science-Based Medicine, Mar 31, 2025)
Trofim Lysenko was a Soviet scientist whose dogmatic science denialism led to mass famine when his ideas were applied to agriculture. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a lot like Lysenko in his science denial. Will his results be as disastrous?
It's impossible to predict at this point. It may even get worse.
Lysenko's ideas began to dominate the USSR in the late ´20s, and his influence didn't decline until the ´50s when Stalin died.
It's unlikely that RFK Jr. lives another 25 years (Trump certainly won't), but there are younger Trumpists eager to take over.

MSNBC Op-Ed on the hiring of David Geier: "With this hire, anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Health and Human Services Department is dealing a blow both to public faith in vaccine safety and to the credibility of the federal government’s public health guidance, by turning what should be a technical, evidence-based institution into overtly political terrain.Though Mark Geier has testified in scores of court cases involving vaccines, his testimony has consistently been rejected as irrelevant in legal settings. According to The New York Times, in 2003 a judge ruled that Geier was “a professional witness in areas for which he has no training, expertise and experience.” Other judges have called Geier’s testimony “intellectually dishonest” and “wholly unqualified,” The Times reported." Mark Geier is David Geier's father.

The Wall Street Journal was quoted by Huffpost: "Our worst fears about Mr. Kennedy are coming true,' the paper’s editorial board wrote."

"“The FDA as we know it is finished,” said Robert Califf, the commissioner under the Biden administration who has emerged as a strident critic of the Trump administration’s efforts to gut the agency. “I will be glad if I’m proven wrong.”" Endpoints

More detail from Gorski/NotOrac about RFK and his idiocy.

Mebbe Mikey G will be along to tell us how Rong Gorski is...

SBM reported, "On March 10, 2025, leadership of a research study known as the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS) was notified that the grant supporting the study had been terminated. The DPPOS and its predecessor the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) have studied a group of patients since the inception of the DPP in 1996...This is a multicenter study, involving 30 institutions across the USA. Due to the way NIH structures this type of grant, the funding for the entire study apparatus is managed through a central grant recipient. In recent years Columbia University has become the funding center. Columbia receives the funds from NIH and distributes these to the various centers. No official justification for the defunding has been given, but it was part of a sweeping cancellation of federal grants to Columbia University."

It is strange that RFK Jr was apparently not able (or willing?) to keep this study going, given his...keen interest...in chronic disease.

Willing to bet wiffle-brained Kennedy knew nothing whatever about this situation. Looks like a DOGE caper in Kennedy's back yard. I think Kennedy is too scattered and gormless to understand or care about it.

After quoting from Dr. Marks' resignation letter, David Gorski wrote at SBM, "Having followed and written about RFK Jr. for nearly 20 years, I am hard-pressed to come up with a better concise description of his approach to vaccines and science. Like Trofim Lysenko, RFK Jr. is an ideologue whose “science” flows from his preconceived notions about vaccines, public health, and chronic illness. Like Lysenko, RFK Jr. is not swayed by evidence, science, or reason. After all, many have tried to persuade him that vaccines do not cause autism using scientific evidence, and he still fervently believes it."
