And what is that going to do? Are there power plants sitting idle that could undercut Canadian imports? If there were why wouldn't they already be running? As has been pointed calling the 25% on electricity a tariff makes no sense as its an export. And clearly Trump still doesn't understand how tariffs work, all he is doing is making things more expensive for US citizens and potentially putting more of them out of work.

Why would Canada and Greenland not want to become states when they see how kindly and generously the current US administration treats its own citizens?

To solve the Emergency on Electricity, concerned citizens should put on a wooly pullover and rub party balloons on themselves for at least an hour a day. Those whose jobs have been recently chainsawed should have enough free time to do this for up to 7 hours/day.

TBH, I was really hoping that would happen under the Biden administration. Something like, "whoa, look how much a rogue president could screw things up! We should reinforce the guardrails, put more checks in place, etc, just in case that ever happens again." Instead, as far as I can tell, all that happened was that Biden cancelled Trump's Schedule F EO, which of course Trump promptly reinstated once he was back in office.

You'd think it's the sort of thing that you could get Congress to support.

I'm pretty bitterly disappointed about that.
 
I may have missed something but what is Don’s reason for wanting to make Canada the “cherished fifty-first state”? He continually says we don’t need this, that, and the other thing from them. Why make Canada a state? It sounds as if Canada is useless so what’s the point? Will Canada suddenly be wonderful when it is admitted to the union? Will the things Canada provides be ok then?

I think that Trump wants to make his mark on history by Making America Great Again, in this case by being the president that expanded the territory of America by the largest amount, Greenland included of course. All the stuff about security, trade deficit, Fentanyl etc. is just window dressing.

Well obviously if the 49th parallel is no longer an international border, the several kilograms of fentanyl crossing it per year will no longer be drug smuggling into the US. Drugs problem solved.
