Trump's Second Term

But if* border seizures are any indication of the relative scale of smuggling
I think that one of Trump’s henchmen was quoted here saying that border seizures are so low precisely because the Canadians are closing their eyes and letting huge amounts pass through.

There is no way these idiots can just accept facts.

So we can add "Who controls each side of a border" to the list of things they don't understand. Mind you, Brexiters seem to have the same problem..

But if* border seizures are any indication of the relative scale of smuggling, the amount of fentanyl coming across the Canadian border is tiny; less than a half of one percent of the amount coming across the Mexican border. The figures posted <somewhere on this forum> were around 10 tons seized on the Mexican border in a year versus less than 50 pounds on the Canadian border. A large truckload versus an amount you could literally pick up with one hand. So, why exactly is Canada the emergency, Mr President?

* And if they aren't then what figures do justify Trump's claimed emergency on the Canadian border?

Kevin Hassett suggests Canadian authorities are covering up major fentanyl operations: "I can tell you that in the situation room I've seen photographs of fentanyl labs in Canada that the law enforcement folks were leaving alone. Canada's got a big drug problem."

◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ lying piece of ◊◊◊◊!

It's an excuse for action though.

If they deny it then obviously it proves it's true.

Time to invade and seize the labs.

The new Gestapo.
Federal immigration authorities arrested a Palestinian graduate student who played a prominent role in last spring’s anti-Israel protests at Columbia University, according to his attorney....Amy Greer, told The Associated Press she spoke by phone with one of the ICE agents during the arrest, who said they were acting on State Department orders to revoke Khalil’s student visa. Informed by the attorney that Khalil was in the United States as a permanent resident with a green card, the agent said they were revoking that too, according to the lawyer. The arrest appeared to be among the first known actions under President Donald Trump’s pledge to deport international students who joined the protests against Israel’s war in Gaza that swept college campuses last spring. His administration has claimed participants forfeited their rights to remain in the country by supporting Hamas, a terror organization. AP article link

Crazy, crazy times.

For context, certainly one of the most brilliant posters on YT, Benn Jordan, has just published a video (hours ago), You Are Witnessing the End of Capitalism, that, imho, puts current events in proper context. Traces the changes that have occurred within capitalism over recent decades, including a return to a rent economy, the role of private equity in other changes, and the idea of power becoming the main currency. No advocacy for a radical new political or economic model, just the relentless weight of evidence characterizing current and recent affairs. Longish, worth it.

Hey Kevin! Show us the photos and evidence. Or go ◊◊◊◊ yourself in the ear.

See
Not the economics, but the result of everyone being a slave to some corporate master.
"It’s been clear for quite a while now that red America and blue America are becoming like two different countries claiming the same territory, with two different versions of the Constitution, economics, and American history. But Babel is not a story about tribalism; it’s a story about the fragmentation of everything. It’s about the shattering of all that had seemed solid, the scattering of people who had been a community. It’s a metaphor for what is happening not only between red and blue, but within the left and within the right, as well as within universities, companies, professional associations, museums, and even families," writes Jonathan Haidt.

While I appreciate Quayle's standing up for the Republic, it was hardly the Potato thing that made him seem dumb. See the following quotes by the man:

That being said, none of those quotes have the seething hatred and selfish rage of MTG.
Quayle wasn't wrong about this one, as the last seven weeks have proven:
"People that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and have a tremendous impact on history."
(Vice President Dan Quayle)

Corporate master ? We had that before. And the social split is present everywhere. US is just really good at it.
IMHO it's social media. Simplification, tribalism, echo chambers and a bit of true and honest propaganda.
There are now 2 opinions about everything. Not 1. Not more. Usually it's because the problem is simplified to one yes-no question. Nuance is forbidden. Or at least, not interesting. Which in world of social media is even worse than forbidden.
That's also very polarizing. Without nuance, we generalize the opposite camp as the worst possible interpretation. Like in abortion debate. Either you are killing the babies, or you are killing the mothers. Nothing between. Extreme positions in many problems are immoral. Once you simplify everything to yes-no question, both positions contain these extremes.
Based on polarization, you are more likely to hold the same opinions on everything as your social group. Because holding the other opinion is unacceptable, and you would be excommunicated.
So the society has to split into 2 parts. Each hold the same opinion about every problem, while the other part holds the exact opposite opinion.
Each is convicted about their righteousness. Each considers the other one immoral.
There's probably like 1% of people which would answer possible question about their position with: it's not that simple ! Sounds a bit like the guys from the other camp, right ? Apologists. At best.
IMHO there's no way out. We're doomed.

That's why I have maintained for years that at least in the U.S., the union *must* be split. How it would be physically split is a difficult issue because of the division of rural-urban camps, but some sort of split--even if it is just presented as a temporary solution--is the only hope. Then, you have a true scientific test of which ideology does better. Let the facsists have their authoritarian reign, banish all diversity, arm everyone to the hilt etc, and see how it works out for them. Wouldn't take long to find out.

Wow I didn't know that Canada has a fentanyl problem too. Who would have guessed? Trump should insist they solve it now or he will invade.

Mark Carney the new Canadian Prime Minister says the nation faces "dark, dark days, brought on by a country we can no longer trust"

In a message to US President Donald Trump, Carney pledges to keep retaliatory tariffs on US goods until "Americans show us respect"

Donald's tariffs gave Carney a huge boost on the polls

Because of what I regularly view on YouTube, I've been getting suggested videos about how the price of board games will be going up due to the tariffs, since the boards, boxes, cards, miniatures, tokens, etc. are typically manufactured in China. US manufacturers can't/won't do the small runs that smaller companies like Arcane Wonders or Stonemaier Games need, as opposed to the massive print runs for companies like Hasbro, Mattel, etc.
