It's not even a question of whether he believes them or not. That is irrelevant.I'm not sure the distinction between whether Trump is lying or stupid in regard to the "transgender mice" thing is even relevant. Trump doesn't believe or disbelieve things according to whether they can be demonstrated to be true or not- I think his filter is installed the other way around, where things are true or not according to whether he believes them. This thing is the same as the "Haitians eating the cats and dogs" episode- is there any reason to think someone correcting him on the facts, then or now ("sir, transgenic is not the same thing as transgender, sir"), would make any difference to him?
Does it get him what he wants, does it serve (i.e. justify) his purpose?
Look at the question of vaccines, for instance. He actually seems to think that vaccines work, but he's not adamant that they do if he sees that it doesn't give him the adulation from his fans that he desires.
And the only reason why he believes in the Covid-19 vaccines is that he likes to think that he is the one who made them.
Does anybody think that he has the slightest idea how vaccines work or even how we know that they work? The question of how they work would be relevant if it was about belief, but since it's all about whether or not vaccines serve his purpose, even superficial knowledge of how they work is uninteresting to him. He doesn't want to convince anybody that they work.
Other stuff that It's useless for him to have any knowledge about: windmills, magnets, electricity, UV light, whales, sharks, bleach, hurricanes, nuclear bombs, global warming, raw earth, toilets, etc.
Does Trump actually believe that people in Greenland want to become Americans?
The question is irrelevant to him.
He wants Greenland, so it serves his purpose to claim that they do.
And Canadians aren't different from Greenlanders, in this respect.
