Trump's Second Term

I'm not sure the distinction between whether Trump is lying or stupid in regard to the "transgender mice" thing is even relevant. Trump doesn't believe or disbelieve things according to whether they can be demonstrated to be true or not- I think his filter is installed the other way around, where things are true or not according to whether he believes them. This thing is the same as the "Haitians eating the cats and dogs" episode- is there any reason to think someone correcting him on the facts, then or now ("sir, transgenic is not the same thing as transgender, sir"), would make any difference to him?
It's not even a question of whether he believes them or not. That is irrelevant.
Does it get him what he wants, does it serve (i.e. justify) his purpose?
Look at the question of vaccines, for instance. He actually seems to think that vaccines work, but he's not adamant that they do if he sees that it doesn't give him the adulation from his fans that he desires.
And the only reason why he believes in the Covid-19 vaccines is that he likes to think that he is the one who made them.
Does anybody think that he has the slightest idea how vaccines work or even how we know that they work? The question of how they work would be relevant if it was about belief, but since it's all about whether or not vaccines serve his purpose, even superficial knowledge of how they work is uninteresting to him. He doesn't want to convince anybody that they work.
Other stuff that It's useless for him to have any knowledge about: windmills, magnets, electricity, UV light, whales, sharks, bleach, hurricanes, nuclear bombs, global warming, raw earth, toilets, etc.

Does Trump actually believe that people in Greenland want to become Americans?
The question is irrelevant to him.
He wants Greenland, so it serves his purpose to claim that they do.

And Canadians aren't different from Greenlanders, in this respect.

Good point, It is completely irrelevant to him so long as it serves his narcissistic needs.
I personally don't buy the assumption that Trump is "stupid" as a blanket term, as if he has an IQ below 60 or something. I frequently call him an idiot, and that's well-deserved, but to get to the position he is in required more than just luck, the stupidity of others, and help from the political machine. It requires a certain degree of intelligence. He is no Sarah Palin, MTG, Dan Quayle, or any of the myriad of other 'stupid' politicians that pop into my head. Hell, I dare say he is far more intelligent than Don Jr. or Erik. He's still a complete idiot ;)
You can’t put Dan Quayle in that category. As much as he was once laughed at as a by-word for Stooopid, really that came down to a misspelling of potaytoe and let’s face it, we can all have an off-day.

Dan Quayle reportedly was the one to tell Mike Pence that it would be unconstitutional to deny the electoral vote on January 6th so let’s give him some credit for saving postponing America’s descent into autocracy.

The fact that the electorate decided they did want autocracy after all makes him at least smarter than half the population.

While I appreciate Quayle's standing up for the Republic, it was hardly the Potato thing that made him seem dumb. See the following quotes by the man:

That being said, none of those quotes have the seething hatred and selfish rage of MTG.

FIFA should pick another host country immediately. Then the Lardy Lumphead will have nothing to do with it.
Trump was speaking alongside Fifa president Gianni Infantino at the signing of an executive order to establish a taskforce that will oversee preparations for the tournament.
Trump will chair the task force, which will "co-ordinate with federal agencies in planning, organising and executing" the tournament.

I foresee chaos.

Officials and players will be expected to stay in Trump hotels and FIFA will be expected to make deals with Trumps cronies, so business as usual for FIFA.

It has to be a golden opportunity for some Riefenstahl-type documentaries.

I think, even my Canadian standards, the lady is pretty far to the left.
And why is Canadian media much different then US media?
Don't coporations own most Canadian media also?
What came to mind when I read it was, "Pompous and arrogant".

I would argue 30% but won't quibble with your defense ;)

It all has to fit into his stand up presidency act. He is going to miss that, the loving crowds. Now all he gets is torn up defaced golf clubs.

If we are going only with those who actively voted then maybe Dan Quayle is even smarter than those who voted third party or told themselves that things can’t be that bad if they don’t vote. So…. Maybe he is actually in the top 30% of smart people! ;)

I'm not, in principle, against federal agencies getting involved to some degree in organized sports, and the costs are probably only a comparative drop in the bucket anyway, but...as long as Musk is running around with his chainsaw looking for things to cut to save the government money, I can sure think of a lot of better things for it to be spending that money on than this.

To be honest, when I cited Quayle I was actually thinking of the SNL portrayal of Ross Perot's running mate, James Stockdale ("Where am I? Who am I??) and for some reason I transposed Quayle and Stockdale in my mind, probably due to a combination of senility and the emotional trauma of the past couple months...
