Trump's Second Term

Anybody see this suggestion of a $5000 check to taxpayers? It's a brilliant idea to bring home just how much DOGE has cut the cost of the federal government. There's just one teeny little problem; it's bound to lead to another round of inflation.

Of note, last calculation I saw is that what DOGE's cut actually adds up to about $11 per person.

Noe existent and dead people are being used to collect pay checks, that's why his email is important.
Here's the thing. I do some work for a government department in the UK. They gave me a personal email address as part of my account but no one is supposed to use it because all the emails are supposed to be sent to an address that can be seen by everyone on my team. I am not unique in this, there are other people at my firm who never bother to open the email box the department gave them because its not relevant to their role. I can well imagine there are plenty of lower level people in those US departments who never bother with their personal email boxes.
ETA: Oh and I frequently send emails to people in those departments only to get back out of office emails or zero response because it was buried under a blizzard of other emails, all marked as priority.

In public hospitals here, staffed by public employees, work email inboxes are filtered/blocked for external sites and emails such as Bookface, Xitter and TokTik. So if Muskrat's emails come via X, the whole department would never receive them. I'm going to expect this is the same for many US federal departments, especially the weird acronym ones.

I am sure it would buy Trump a fair amount of short-term goodwill, but it would be bound to backfire by the 2026 midterms. Trump already has only a slender majority in the House and if he loses that he will be unable to do much legislatively.
As long as the judiciary don't cave and allow him to rule by EO.

Friedrich Merz says his top priority is to "strengthen Europe as quickly as possible so that we can be independent of the United States of America" on defence.

"I would've never thought I would need to say something like this on television, but after Donald Trump's statements last week it's clear: this American government doesn't care for Europe."

He says Elon Musk has "interfered" in the German election, calling it "drastic and shameful - similar to what we've heard from Moscow in the past".

I feel like our foreign correspondents should be more enthusiastic about this nudge towards Europe being more relevant and influential on the world stage.

An EU that can contain Moscow on its own has little use for a friendly America on that front.

True, but the problem is not just an unfriendly Moscow. It's an unfriendly USA in cahoots with an unfriendly Moscow.

What even compels people to hoard that much money.
On that topic I seem to remember a Kurt Vonnegut short story. It was a planet where everyone was slave to one guy. They were living their life and work in a sort of prison. And the one guy still held it all.
Musk is going for that. Then Mars. Mars with women and he living there, greenhouses and all. And an IVF clinic.
