Trump's Second Term

The thing that puzzles me so much is that the Republican Senators and Members of the House seem perfectly happy to cede all their power and influence to Elon Musk.
Why not? He's doing what they've been talking about doing for ages, firing public employees and cutting public spending left, right, and centre. Sure, some of them are offering a bit of pushback, when faced with the public who are actually bearing the brunt of those cuts, but in secret they're ecstatic.

Thread was answered a good while ago. Just as there were no good nazis, there are no good republicans today.
The Nazi Party was created with the express intent of genocide and war. The Republican party wasn't. Part of its reason for existing was abolishing slavery.

In secret, many of them are terrified. Way too much is happening way too fast for any sane person to be comfortable with. But Trump is still inexplicably popular with his hardcore supporters, and any Republican politician going against him is almost certainly throwing away their career (to say nothing about the variety of death threats they receive if it looks like they are stepping out of line). If they want to keep their jobs, they need to stay on the Trump bandwagon, even as it gets driven over a cliff.

So about that email that went out ordering federal employees to reply by the 24th, the details their last week's work? The director of the FBI told his agents not to reply. I heard that my former co workers at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard were told to ignore the e-mail if they get it.

Some of this crap is just too stupid. Trump cannot fire them all; he is going to figure that out soon. :)

Just say you did the job you are contracted to do and did it to the satisfaction of your line management.

Etiher
1) Elon Musk has enough money to personally finance the campaign of any primary challenger to any current GOP member of Congress.
or
2) They perceive that they will have more power once the administration solidifies the USA as a one-party state and thus are willing to cede power in the short term.

For most office workers, the actual mechanics of complying are no big deal. Most of them (and all contract employees) have to write weekly and/or monthly reports and/or report on their accomplishments at weekly or monthly project meetings anyway.

It might be a little more difficult for, say, a Secret Service agent:
1) Travelled to Mar-a-Lago on Air Force One as part of a presidential security detail.
2) Guarded the restaurant's supply of eggs
3) Played Super Mario games with Elon Musk's son.
4) Helped the president collect classified military documents to show to visiting Russian businessmen
5) Moved the president's golf ball in order to give him a better lie 11 times (hmm, is the reason that the president likes golf so much is that players hope to get a good lie?).

Musk wanted five bullet points. :)
The emails, which NPR has confirmed, were sent by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). They ask workers to reply and provide "approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager," and give a deadline of Monday 11:59 p.m. ET. They ask that no classified information be shared.
As a radiological control technician, I would have not had a problem coming up with unclassified descriptions of what I did on board various nuclear powered ships while repairing them. But some people like FBI agents were not going to be able to say much without revealing subjects of a sensitive nature.

They still have power in their own states.
