Trump's Second Term

And the protests in all major cities in the US is:

Basically zero.

US citizens don't seem to care watching their country getting ripped away under their feet. Let's be honest, they love the show, right? The drama, the egregious lunacy. Finally something is happening. They were all getting bored. The is the ◊◊◊◊ show of our lives.
I suggest you watch the first ten minutes of Rachel Maddow's Wednesday show.

Wait until the Body bags start coming home from Gaza....
Meh, the body bags came back from Iraq/Afghanistan for over a decade and didn't really shake up US politics as much as Katrina and the 2008 crash.

What's the worst Trump can do?
Lots of people will suffer due to income and healthcare changes.

But the worst that could happen is another pandemic. Trump would not do what he did before. Because he knows he cannot have health care officials stand up in gov't events or with just Trump somewhere in a room in broadcast. He knows he did badly, because he knows TV. So nothing will happen. He will ban any interaction between the feds and the masses. Nothing at all. The entire fight of the pandemic will by governors.

There will be natural disasters. Those will also be bad. No funds at all.

Oh dear. If only this could have been 100% predicted. I mean it WAS because nobody should ever believe that Trump or Musk would honour their commitments...
It's also relevant that ICE and Immigration workers are excluded from the buyout deal. Coincidentally the agency he needs to execute his mass deportations is somehow immune to the sloth and mistrust that allegedly plagues the rest of the executive branch and requires their dismissal by voluntary means if possible, and by termination if not.

Yeah, quite the coinky-dink, right? Meanwhile career investigators and CIA agents are getting a buyout.

No way that could go wrong, especially if a lot of them go with that option. Then a huge hiring effort to replace them. Fancy that.

You know what isn't skeptical? Drawing conclusions from a series of photographs lacking context.
Good thing nobody was doing that except one guy who figured out that they were reading tactical messages.

Yes, you can plainly see how well coordinated that protest is from the picture. Energetic, too.

I know, right? Where are the threats to execute government officials? Where are the violent assaults on the police? Did they even build one gallows for the vice president? Those free and fair elections aren’t going to overturn themselves.

Your suggestion that "standing around staring at your phone" was essentially the same as doing nothing dismisses the possibility that phones can be useful during protests, since using a phone for organisation, coordination and communication during a protest is certainly not nothing.

Does it make more sense now?
Yeah, somewhat. Except it's fallacious for two reasons. The first is that standing around staring at your phone (ie, doing nothing) does not imply that phones cannot be used for tactical purposes; those are two different things. The second is the false premise that I was talking about anything other than the impression that the photo gives.

That said, if we only had some way of ascertaining the truth, I would bet anyone here at 10-to-1 odds that those folks in the picture who were standing around staring at their phones weren't reading tactical, organizational messages, and I'm pretty sure that nobody who is arguing with me would take that bet, which, if I'm right, implies that none of you sincerely believe that that's what those people are doing. And if that's the case (and I'm pretty sure it is) then why the ◊◊◊◊ are you arguing with me?

It's about a negitive one thousand. What is proposed is the whoesale destruction of education in America and it's replacement with nothing.
(Please learn the difference between “it's” (==“it is”) and “its” (works like “his” and “hers”.) Don't simply write out the first one that comes to mind.)

Unfortunately my ranking system is only for items I see as positive or negative and doesn't attempt to assign impact. Were Trump to unilaterally shut down Medicare and Medicade, I would assign -1 to each action even though the impact would be enormous.

The impression I get (as I munch on more popcorn, literally too, not metaphoric) was that they were not so much disagreeing with your assertion that standing around with phones was not a visceral example of 'fighting' but that your response was snarky, dismissive, and irrelevant to the overall point of the post. But that's just my relatively uninterested third party perspective--I could be wrong ;)

I would probably go with snarky and dismissive, but relevant. But two out of three is not bad.

As of February 5, my score on the Trump administration stands at -71.

5 February 2024
-1: Executive Order: Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports (-1 for continued attack on 2SLGTBQ+ rights)
-1: Trump claims without evidence trans athletes have stolen 3,500 victories [15]
-1: Karoline Leavitt repeats right wing conspiracy theory that USAID spent $8.2 million on funding to Politico Pro [16]
-2: United States Agency for International Development is shut down (-2 for probably illegal action)

As for earlier events, I reduced the score on executive order 14191 (Expanding Educational Freedom and Opportunity for Families) from 0 to -1 as it's a transparent attempt to funnel taxpayer dollars to private and charter schools, many of which are religion based.

Footnotes:

15. Trump: "In recent years the radical left has waged an all-out campaign to erase the very concept of biological sex and replace it with a militant transgender ideology. You heard a little bit about this, haven't you? Men claiming to be girls have stolen more than 3,500 victories."

16. Leavitt: "I was made aware of the funding from USAID to media outlets, including Politico, who I know has a seat in this room. I can confirm that the more than 8 eight taxpayer dollars that have gone to essentially subsidizing subscriptions to Politico will no longer be happening. The DOGE team is working on cancelling those payments." [The quoted amount is for *all* US government subscriptions to Politico Pro and Associated Press; USAID never contributed directly to Politco's operations.]

Absolutely! It practically goes without saying that the rights of a small number of trans women supersede the rights of biological females!

You're right! It was only 900 medals according to the United Nations. That's almost four times better!

To be honest, I can find much better comics elsewhere.
