Trump's Second Term

I'm not a lawyer, but the comment was based on this article.
Apparently a 1917 US UK treaty gives UK first claim to Greenland. Of course Trump isn't known for sticking to treaties so I am sure that you and Trump are in agreement on this.
I'm not a lawyer either, but while the treaty (linked from your link) includes a declaration effectively ceding Greenland to Denmark, there doesn't seem to be any mention of the UK having first claim. Unless I'm missing something.

The secret annex!

I admit to some dubiety, but this is Trump. So long as we stick the myth it'll turn into reality.

Governing is so much easier when you have tight control over an effective propaganda machine.

Trump came into office promising that everyone would be far better off, prices would fall and taxes would decrease as foreign countries provided billions in revenue to the US as a result of tariffs.

Now it's clear that prices will likely continue to rise, and in fact inflation could increase as a result of tariffs. Instead of pointing out his lies, the media is instead focusing on his comments that "[the] pain from tariffs 'worth the price'". There were supposed to be no pain from tariffs, instead there were going to be considerable benefits.

The idea that Canada would be a 51st state surely doesn't have support from mainstream Republicans. Are they so in thrall to Trump that they genuinely think that this is not only possible, but a good idea or are they simply to craven to say anything that might displease the great leader ?

Someone actually said in the pub "Canada needs the USA more than the USA needs them"

That was the same thing he said about Brexit and the UK.

Sadly enough, that is largely true. Canada will not win a trade war with the US if Trump decides to keep doubling down. The US would win a war of attrition.

There was indeed some palnning in Trump attacking Deep State for a week:

Over the last nine days, the house has been out of session while the Democracy is sold for parts.Would have been nice had they come back on their own and sued, yelled, stood up, etc. Anything but stayed home.

Why is it only Democrats are being criticized!!! This is an AMERICAN issue!!! The illegal means of getting MILLIONS of Americans’ personal information and transferring it to a hard drive of a civilian should be alarming to EVERYONE. Musk isn’t only getting Democrats’ information but also Republicans. WHERE ARE OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND WHY AREN’T THEY SCREAMING AND FILING INJUNCTIONS? Where has the spirit gone to protect ALL Americans!!!

Well, aussie, the elected officials pass laws. The day to day goverment does not report to Congress the way it reports to parliaments and other EU country houses of representatives.

Presumably only the Democrats have been criticised because the Republicans were expected to wholeheartedly approve of the US' descent into an autocracy (and those few with maybe a few scruples would be too cowardly to do anything about it for fear of reprisals).

If Canada were to become part of the US, its highly unlikely we would enjoy voting rights. We would be another Puerto Rico. There for the plunder of the elite class but having no actual rights or say in our future.

I'm ready to die fighting before letting that happen.
The last time the US went to war with Canada the Whitehouse got burned down.

Someone posted a diagram that shows Musk tweeting pretty much 24/7, only pausing for about 3-4 hours, presumably to sleep. If he doesn't have 'ghostwriters' to help troll X for him, then he's just up and at it around the clock, with next to no sleep. I guess he just assumes all of his underlings will do likewise. Quite possibly with the assistance of stimulating drugs.

Wait until Donald and the Magats find out about light vs heavy crude oil and why Canadian oil is important

US sourced oil is the very best oil for all uses.

All other oil is inferior and the US is currently only importing it because Joe Biden was too weak to tell other countries where to put their rubbish oil.

Its be a few days at most before the US increases production to meet all domestic requirements and then the US consumer will have cheaper, better oil in quantities they can currently only dream of. There'll be so much oil that gas will be $1 a gallon and the removal of useless FDA-imposed standards and protections will mean that US producers will be making money hand over fist even with gas prices at that level.

Trump statement on his tariffs.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
The "Tariff Lobby," headed by the Globalist, and always wrong, Wall Street Journal, is working hard to justify Countries like Canada, Mexico, China, and too many others to name, continue the decades long RIPOFF OF AMERICA, both with regard to TRADE, CRIME, AND POISONOUS DRUGS that are allowed to so freely flow into AMERICA.
THOSE DAYS ARE OVER! The USA has major deficits with Canada, Mexico, and China (and almost all countries!), owes 36 Trillion Dollars, and we're not going to be the "Stupid Country" any longer.
MAKE YOUR PRODUCT IN THE USA AND THERE ARE NO TARIFFS! Why should the United States lose TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN SUBSIDIZING OTHER COUNTRIES, and why should these other countries pay a small fraction of the cost of what USA citizens pay for Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, as an example?
THIS WILL BE THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA! WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES, MAYBE (AND MAYBE NOT!). BUT WE WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, AND IT WILL ALL BE WORTH THE PRICE THAT MUST BE PAID.
WE ARE A COUNTRY THAT IS NOW BEING RUN WITH COMMON SENSE - AND THE RESULTS WILL BE SPECTACULAR!!!

I sure that "THE RESULTS WILL BE SPECTACULAR", just not in the way that he, and the MAGA supporters are expecting.

Then again maybe other countries will roll over and submit to these bully boy tactics.

Donald on Canada becoming a state again. With the tariffs and no subsidy from the USA Canada isn't a viable country.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump.

We pay hundreds of Billions of Dollars to SUBSIDIZE Canada. Why? There is no reason. We don't need anything they have. We have unlimited Energy, should make our own Cars, and have more Lumber than we can ever use.
Without this massive subsidy, Canada ceases to exist as a viable Country. Harsh but true! Therefore, Canada should become our Cherished 51st State.
Much lower taxes, and far better military protection for the people of Canada AND NO TARIFFS!

"WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES"
A bit like Brexit and those sunlit uplands then ?

Of course it doesn't matter that not only does Trump not deliver on his promises, he delivers the opposite, because the media simply will not call him out on it.

Somehow I think that Canada will find a ready market for the goods it's unable to export to the US especially if US goods are subject to significant tariffs.

There is some truth to this. But a lot of the reasons are the US system. For instance pharma bro, who bought the rights to pyrimethamine from big pharma (who had agreed to continue production off patent at an available price until another manufacturer took over) who increased the price over tenfold. Direct to consumer marketing (not allowed in many countries). A legal liability system that requires massive profits to cover potential liabilities (e.g. the meritless claims about talc and ovarian cancer that have led to J&J stopping sale of talc and offering $11 billion in settlements. An example of why vaccine companies require limited liability in the US). A complex health care system. Yes the UK pays lower prices because a government body negotiates with the seller for a fair price. The company do not have to sell at the price offered, that its the market. But most are prepared to accept a price that covers costs and has a profit margin in exchange for a large market deal. Biden demonstrated that the US could do this too. If the US removed punitive damages on licensed drugs where there was no malicious / criminal negligence then this could also drop prices. If the US limited direct to consumer advertising, and limited direct to physician advertising and expenditure this could reduce prices.

Insulin is a good example, the prices in the US are way higher than elsewhere. But it isn't as if the US invented insulin and it's been stolen from the US and sold back at excessive prices. If anyone invented insulin it was the Canadians. The Danish historically manufactured a lot because it came from Pigs, and the Danes had a lot of pigs. Now it is made other ways. But capitalism says the the fair price of a product is what the market will bare, and if the US market will pay higher prices than anyone else does, that is a US issue not a rest of the world issue. Putting a tariff on danish insulin will not bring the price down.

Putting a tariff on danish insulin will not bring the price down.
Tariffs never bring prices down because the domestic manufacturers immediately raise their prices to match or juuuust undercut the imported tariffed prices of their competitors. Capitalism demands every cent be squeezed out of the consumer.
