Trump's Second Term

Tariffs will go into effect on Saturday on Canadian goods being imported into the States. I just don't get it! There is no reason whatsoever for this except Trump's ego. Why the #$%^ does Trump or his advisors not realize that this is just stupid.

Or is Trump in effect trying to force Canada to join the USA by plunging me and my fellow Canadians into economic collapse, or so he thinks? I expect anti-Americanism to rise in Canada as a result of this idiocy.

Make no mistake about it, President- ◊◊◊◊◊ -His-Pants in his attempt to gaslight the U.S. public about this tragedy, is also trying to scapegoat all non-whites (male and female) on the flight crews and in the tower. FSM forbid any of them are named Lopez or Guzman. Or if they're black or brown. All he's done today is stir up the maga weirdo racists, and imagine what they'll do if they get the names of the flight crews and tower personnel, and some of the names sound furreign.

He is scum.

If you happen to view Trump as a hostile foreign asset, his actions actually make reasonable sense. If you aren't willing to go that far, simply acknowledging that much of the Republican Party's success is dependent upon how much they sabotage the country to manufacture the woes that they then exploit, thus creating seriously perverse incentives to sabotage more would give a foundation to understand his actions.

For the record, here's what Canada exports to the USA (list limited to lines greater than $10B). Total exports are over $430B per annum, nearly as much as one Musk.

So a 10% tariff on these imports will be paid by the US importers, notably the fuel, oil and vehicle industries. That alone is $25B extra costs that will flow back to the US consumers. Expect gas prices to hike, and cars to cost more. So, like the recent "government sackings" edict, I suspect this too will be rapidly and completely rescinded (by yet another EO??).
