He is not a very smart person, but I think he is quite canny in his corruption.
 
So with the cancellation of the Memo, looks as if the first attempt at Move Fact Break Things has not worked so well.
BTW most of the high tech industry has moved beyond that philosoply simply becuase it does not work.
 

Exclusive-USDA inspector general escorted out of her office after defying White House​

So Trump "fired" a bunch of Inspector Generals (IG) earlier this week. Except he's required to notify congress 30 days in advance and to cite clear reason, neither of which he did. The IGs are mostly all lawyers and correctly understood that the attempt to fire them was invalid. So Trump or his appointees had at least one (Phyllis Fong, US Dept of Agriculture) escorted from the Department's HQ building in D.C.

The interesting part to me is to think of how such lawlessness trickles down. Security for the USDA building in DC is probably the Federal Protective Service (FPS, an agency of the Dept. of Homeland Security). USDA does have its own armed law enforcement, but not very many and they don't do front-line security for the larger buildings. So the "firing" was illegal and FPS was called in to enforce it. They arguably broke their oath, but might not have known it. The legality of a thing like this can be pretty hard to judge on the fly like that.

But already we are seeing an agency of Homeland Security using armed guards to enforce a very clearly illegal order.

As a tactic it can work pretty well. Order something clearly illegal, but don't give police/security/military time to judge the legality on its' merits. They'll defer to following that order, and things break down a little more. Rinse and repeat, dig that hole until they can't get back out.

I think it is a bit of both and somewhere along the line the distinction between ironically doing Nazi salutes on stage and urging the Germans (urging the Germans, by the way!) to vote for a party that does all kinds of Nazi-type things and doing exactly the same things with complete sincerity is meaningless.

"Did you tell the Germans to vote for a far right party?"
"Yes, but I was having a laugh. A bloody good laugh! Heil Hitler!"
"You're not supposed to do that, Elon! You know you're not supposed to do that!"

I hate to blame the military but my bet is this is their fault. Will be interesting.

Here's what I think: If he was convinced that his sci-fi "utopia" required opening up the gas chambers and eugenics programmes, he'd pursue that course of action without compunction. I also think that he can be convinced of the necessity of many bad things once it turns out that the slaves can't carry out his stupid Mars idea in his lifetime.
 
All versions of White Replacement theory, and saying that White Women need to breed more babies is just not saying the next part out loud, which is: ... or we have to genocide everyone else.
