Trump's Second Term

Trump: "We shouldn't be in a position where you have tumbleweed that's dry as a bone*. Even tumbleweed can be nice & green & rich & & it's not gonna burn. You don't even have to remove it. It's not gonna burn. But it's just dry. So I hope you can all get together & say I'm so happy with the water that's gonna be flowing down."

"The trees are loaded with water. They suck that water out of the ground ... it's called management of the floor."

"CA must adopt common sense policies to prevent fires. 8 years ago I was talking to ppl from Austria, ppl from Finland, people that live in forests. One of the great leaders of Austria said 'we don't have forest fires & we have trees that are actually more flammable'...they rake their forest"
The dumbest, smelliest the occupy resident to ever occupy the oval office confirms his absolute ignorance.

Thanks maga weirdos for insuring our country's descent into third-world status.

*It's not tumbleweed you stupid, ignorant ◊◊◊◊, it's invasive cheatgrass.

Thanks maga weirdos for for helping elect a president as stupid as you;.

I guess that my knowledge is somewhat out-dated, given that I've been out of the weather field for (more than) a few years.

That being said, one research meteorologist (who does not work for NOAA) told me that the model that their lab has created has an algorithm for filtering out wind turbine contamination from radial velocity data (they didn't give me a good explanation of why they don't simply drop data from the lower elevation angles for a few miles around the radar). A retired meteorologist told me that when they were still working their system had no problem filtering out wind turbine contamination, in fact it was able to filter out contamination from non-stationary sources like bird flocks.
A lot of the technology is there, implementing it is another story. When I started in 2002ish, I went to a big conference and we were all in agreement about a bunch of changes that needed to be made to the software, hardware, and policies. 15 yrs later, still no change. Agencies like NOAA change at a snails pace, partly because most of the leadership is disconnected from the local teams (and there's a lot of military guys with little background in science) Maybe DOGE will fix all that LOL--although more likely they will try to do away with the NWS as they tried with Santorum & Co a decade ago. If they're successful maybe ill start my own service cause someone will have to fill the gap :)

Remember when Reagan made ketcup a vegetable for school lunches? Well Trump too. Then he takes away the lunch. Then the school. School is too woke.
Ahh the good old days, when the only thing we could make fun of our President was for stupid economics, ketchup, and astrology. Ironically I went to a school in a Republican district, and yet we all could agree to mock the Gipper for that.

Speaking of CA...watch the Eaton fire burn area this weekend--there's a fair chance that it will transition to devastating mudslides...

And here's what real Patriotism is, and a fine example of self redemption:

I dont want your stinkin pardon

Not mentioned in the article is a quote he gave another reporter: "Trump can shove his pardon up his ***" :)

"And you ended up serving time for stealing the government property, [a] book and the liquor during the riot, you ended up spending 90 days in jail. How did that experience affect you?

So by then I actually had some sobriety under my belt and things were starting to change in my head. I remember feeling like, 'All these guys in the red hats, they're kind of jerks.' But then I got to prison, and I was treated like a celebrity for having stormed the Capitol building. Not just from the inmates, but from the staff as well. The first thing a correctional officer said to me when I reported in the booking was, 'Let's go, Brandon.' So I definitely clung on to this patriot hero nonsense."

Yeah. It's bad.
The 2028 election will be a horror show. Not necessarily another coup but definitely violence.

The only way he will wear out his welcome is if the economy goes tits up, food production and supply chain are destroyed, and the MAGAs can't feed themselves and their families. I don't think it will get that far, but I do think the probability of it is non-zero.

Remember, "It's the economy, stupid!"

That reminded me of this:

I am still tryi8ng to figure out what the hell the Trump demand that California free the water means.
I believe he thinks that there are vast untapped water resources being held back (in order to protect fish or some such thing) that California could instead allow to be used for irrigation and firefighting.

I think it demonstrates how easily he gets things conflated (there are restrictions on water use, especially domestic use, in order to prevent major rivers running dry) and how poor his understanding of the natural world is (maybe he thinks the fires wouldn't have happened if they'd been allowed to turn the [non existent] irrigation systems on in the forests).

Rubio announces freeze of ,all foreign assistance, excluded Israel and military aid to Egypt, who would have thought.

In other words, Trump is inviting China to become the primary influencer of most developing countries.

Backhander at De Santis.
Not even a backhander.

States who are willing to kiss the ring will receive generous federal support in the event of a natural disaster (after the appropriate amount has been skimmed off by Trump and his cronies) and publicity for that support will be considerable - and may even involve Trump himself putting in an appearance possibly with a comically large cheque.

Other states will be left on their own - and may even have vital resources diverted by the federal government to the deserving states.

What's the odds he has a "Fantasy Fatwa" game going, playing Israel against Egypt.

America first !

Who knew international diplomacy and influence could be so complicated ?

Trump is under the impression that the threat of tariffs will be enough to bring any country into line to support the US. He has no idea that many countries couldn't give a **** and that the carrot may be more effective than the stick.

Trump has fired 17 Inspector Generals via a late-night email.

He's not legally allowed for fire them without giving congress 30 days notice. So if he's tried to fire them right away that might be illegal. But even if he follows the law - that's just a one-month reprieve. There doesn't seem to be any legal barrier to firing them in the end.

It's pretty common for a President to fire one or two. But 17 at once seems unprecedented.

It's another one of those political traditions that keep breaking down. Traditionally Presidents don't just go through and wholesale replace the IG's - they're sort of an apolitical post.

Well, they were an apolitical post, and were kept on from one admin to the next out of tradition, not law. He'll refill the posts with loyalists.
