Matt Gaetz reported to be leaving the House

CHances are so small as to be non existent.

You're probably right, but what are the chances that trump will actually do something smart and stop picking my fellow republicans (the bastards) from the House for his cabinet?

ETA: I mean come on, Matt Gaetz for AG? How the hell is THAT smart?

One writer speculating that Trump thinks that Gaetz will go down, but thinks that will make the GOP almost automatically approve his next choice who will not have the baggage.
Problem is that Trump is not that clever.

Did somebody use that monkeys paw to make a wish again?
Last term of his, I mentioned a (not very good) book about a Messiah Stone, which whoever gets control of it can control, if not the world, then large parts of it. In the story, Hitler (of course) had it, along with several other prominent figures, good and evil, throughout history. I can't help but think Trump has gotten possession of it.

I got a feeling the discussion has already begun which GOP senators could vote against Gaetz without much political damage. All it will take is four or five, given all the Dems will vote against him.

I've been hearing something about "recess appointments". I'll learn more, I'm sure. But it was something about Trump trying to convince the Senate to go into recess so he can appoint whoever he wants and they won't have to go through the normal process.

Trump is demanding an important change to the Senate confirmation process

How have they been used in the past?

With the exception of Trump and President Joe Biden, recent presidents have made use of recess appointments; according to the Congressional Research Service, former President Barack Obama made 32 recess appointments, Bill Clinton made 139 recess appointments, and George W. Bush made 171 recess appointments.
Though recess appointments were meant to be used in emergencies or in times when Congress met less often, over the past few decades, they’ve become seen as a way for presidents to get around congressional opposition. The process faced major scrutiny during the Obama administration, and was curtailed after a 2014 Supreme Court ruling that Obama had overstepped his power in utilizing recess nominations. (That’s why neither Trump nor Biden made any recess appointments.)

In an effort to block recess appointments, the chamber often employs what are known as “pro forma” sessions. These short meetings, in which no real business is conducted, mean the Senate is never in recess for more than 10 days — preventing the president from making any appointments without the body’s consent. A pro forma session can be as simple as one senator gavelling in, and then calling the session over.
If recess appointments are reinstated, there is little Democrats could do to stop the process, Squire said. But they could slow down legislative processes, which “wouldn’t necessarily prevent [recess appointments] from happening, but there would be a penalty — a cost attached to it.”
Back when Obama was president, I thought the senate was too obstructionist. Often even a single senator was able to block appointments he (or she) didn't like. Now, it could be what saves us from an Attorney General Gaetz and other parades of horribles. But, it all depends on not changing the current rules of the Senate. If Republicans control the Senate, they could, if they want, change the rules with a simple majority. Usually this happens at the beginning of a session.

Only good think is Gaetz is so incompetent he will make a mess of the revenge invesitgation.
On which time Trump will get rid of him.
Reports flooding in that many GOP congress critters are, behing closed doors, appalled at this choice.
And the Gabbard choice is just as bad in the incompetnce department. No qualifications whatsoever.
Right now, I am betting many of our allies have decided to cut off a lot of intelligecne sharing with the US because of Tulsi. And Iran, Russia, CHina, and every terrorist group on earth are happy over this choice. THeir job of operating agains the US just got a lot easier.
I'm sure they're really, really concerned but that means absolutely nothing because the only thing that Republican politicians need to be is 100% loyal to Trump.

Unless he can be a recess appointment?

Republicans "stunned and disgusted" as Trump taps Matt Gaetz for AG

Former President Trump shocked and appalled some Republican lawmakers on Wednesday by announcing plans to nominate Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for attorney general.

Why it matters: Republican reaction to even Trump's most controversial nominations has been muted so far, but placing the scandal-prone right-winger in the nation's highest law enforcement role is a step too far for many.

  • "We wanted him out of the House ... this isn't what we were thinking," quipped one House Republican.
"Stunned"? "Shocked"?
C'mon, how could anyone be even mildly surprised? Trump 2.0 will be worse than last time.

He will want to - but can he?

Republicans will go along with anything as long as they get a cut of the money and the power.
Looks like Trump is freezing them out, picking misfits instead.
He's done surrounding himself with people who are capable of thinking for themselves and exercising independent judgment.
This time he only wants people who will do exactly what he tells them to without questioning it.
In his previous administration his Attorneys General were Jeff Sessions and then Bill Barr. Although both very loyal, they weren't loyal enough for his tastes because either they made decisions that he didn't like, or because they refused to tell him what he wanted to hear.

This time he wants someone who will take orders directly from Trump himself and not pretend to be "independent" of the White House.

Problem, as always, is that Trump will not be happy when his flying monkeys can't get the job done.

Gaetz as AG? Will there be any lawyer not capable of blocking anything that dolt does for four years?
Trump will be very disappointed very quickly.
