Matt Gaetz reported to be leaving the House

Would it affect the outcome? From what I read, the district he represents is solidly republican and he won the 2022 election with 67% of the vote.

There is a chance he could lose the republican primary. (I think his primary is in August.) But does he have any reasonable challengers?

I don't know what changes it'll make but I do feel his district deserves the right to know. He'd probably win by another 60-70% since none of this even put a dent in people voting for him when it came out a few years ago. Tis the GOP of today.

This is Florida. What has voting got to do with any public office? That's not how it works there.

Do the Republicans have any "reasonable" challengers anymore? Any "reasonable" Republican doesn't stand a chance in a primary.
Sorry, I should have clarified, by "reasonable" I meant anyone that has a decent chance of beating Gaetz in a primary.

(I recognize that the republican party as a whole lacks any sort of ethics and anyone that they pick is likely going to fall into the same pro-Trump MAGAchud mold.)

Gaetz for AG? At least that will get him out of the House. Sometimes it sinks and sometimes it floats.
I'm disappointed. I wanted it to be Mike Lee so that my state could have a chance at a senator who didn't spend all his time subverting elections and posting crap on Twitter.

I thought I was being pessimistic enough saying that he wouldn't be prosecuted.

I never dreamed that he'd be appointed AG.

Might there be anyone in the GOP who hates him enough to make his job difficult, or are they just all in thrall to Trump?

It's kind of SOP for some around here. I've said the same thing throughout this thread, and others, but it's just kind of the way it goes. If you're going after a standing, active politician you better have everything tied up, packaged and with a neat little bow.

The fact that this woman is coming in to speak to the Grand Jury should be blatant proof that the investigation is still on-going, but that doesn't mean much apparently.
So how's that neat little bow coming? Am I still too pessimistic? Is it still going to happen "any day now?"

I was ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ wrong. Better? Is this going to be one of those things that perpetually comes about every ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ time like no one else here gets it wrong?

You were so right, Joe. I wish I were like you. I wish I could be a perpetual pessimist and I'm glad you took the time to dig up this thread so you can dance around it. I'm super jelly. You're a prophet.

The sad part is though how much this actually does make perfect sense.

Trump performatively putting the most horrible people he can find into the positions they are the absolute least qualified for to the point that it's a parody is exactly what we all thought he was going to do. I can't wait for him to put Deepak Chopra in charge of the Department of Energy.

Oh, for the love of god....GAETZ?
Crawling up Trump's ass certainly pays off. Buckle up for a deluge of revenge 'investigations'.
Just sickening.

Only good think is Gaetz is so incompetent he will make a mess of the revenge invesitgation.
On which time Trump will get rid of him.
Reports flooding in that many GOP congress critters are, behing closed doors, appalled at this choice.
And the Gabbard choice is just as bad in the incompetnce department. No qualifications whatsoever.
Right now, I am betting many of our allies have decided to cut off a lot of intelligecne sharing with the US because of Tulsi. And Iran, Russia, CHina, and every terrorist group on earth are happy over this choice. THeir job of operating agains the US just got a lot easier.
