General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

And within 4 years you were on active service in the Royal Navy if my recollection is correct
Yes, you can be a cadet from 12 until 18.
Then you leave or become a 'civilian instructor' until they can get you on a sea cadet instructor petty officer course.

I left as a Cadet Petty Officer , the only cadet's to wear 'Number One' rig with gold badges, still a ratings uniform but with crossed Petty Officer anchors as a rate badge.

I went in to the RN at 18 and all the way back to a Junior lol.

Get that formal investigation started!

If you don't want to get angry, do not read this post...

I've been digging around. How much PPE, paid for by the taxpayer, has been destroyed? 1,049,700 pallets, which cost us £8.644 billion.

How much of OUR money has been spent storing PPE in China? £60.6 million.

So grim.

As generally expected, the Archbishop of Canterbury has resigned over the Smyth abuse scandal, which Justin Welby appears to have helped cover up by... doing exactly nothing, over alarming reports of Smyth's penchant for thrashing boys at Christian summer camps, where Welby also acted as a dormitory monitor during some of the same periods as Smyth's presence. It's reasoned Welby must have heard the rumours about Smyth's, <ahem> shall we say, predilections and would certainly have seen a 2013 report detailing allegations against Smyth.

Welby would have been due to resign in a couple of years anyway because of retirement age. Perhaps he should be made to forfeit some of his pension funds given his apparent dereliction of duty towards his 'flock' in turning a blind eye to what should have been properly dealt with.

King Charles - the supreme governor of the Church of England - exchanged private words with Justin Welby through intermediaries this morning, the PA news agency reports.

These words approved the resignation process which was followed by their aides.

Public words from the King will be reserved for the point of formal departure, PA adds. https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cj505ygdp17t

It has to be said, King Charles himself has kept some pretty dubious company over the years.

After Makin he really had no choice but to fall on his sword and that's before we get to what he admits he knew in 2013 about Smyth's abusing, let alone being very close indeed to some of the actual abuse in England.

All this covering up is standard nonsense for our dearly beloved churches. And Welby is far from alone in sticking his head in the sand *cough Bishop of Lincoln cough*

And as for what the police didn't do...

From Makin's Executive Summary -

1.5 Church officers and others were made aware of the abuse in the form of a key report in 1982
prepared by the Reverend Mark Ruston. The recipients of that report participated in an active
cover-up to prevent that report and its findings – including that crimes had been committed -
coming to light. There is no excuse or good explanation that justifies that decision. Different – and
we strongly suspect better, for subsequent victims – outcomes would have followed had
appropriate reports to the police and other statutory authorities been made then.

Just read that and let it sink in...1982...And they knew then it was bad enought to have someone look into Smyth officially...And the twunts did the square root of ◊◊◊◊ all.

Whole of Makin here - https://www.churchofengland.org/sit...essons-review-john-smyth-qc-november-2024.pdf

That's called retirement not resignation.

There seems to be a prima facie case for prosecuting them.
Except the moment any member of the government suggests that suddenly the newspapers will spin it as an attack on Christianity by woke lefties who never prosecute Muslims for all their unspecified crimes.

Given the resignation I would have thought that is effectively saying the church is culpable. Have there been compensation payouts for Smyth's abuse? Shouldn't take much to put the church in the red. Last time I looked at the accounts all the money went on wages and buildings. Hardly anything on helping the poor etc.

Here comes yet another Public Inquiry...?

One of the problems is that headmasters caning boys not so long ago was considered traditional and par for the course. Imagine the hundreds of thousands of people lining up for compensation.

Thank goodness these predators are now being named and shamed.

It's been confirmed Nigel Farage has been overlooked for both Match Of The Day Archbishop of Canterbury .

Reform UK will be writing to Starmer and GBNews will be organising a petition encouraging viewers to boycott God.

Archbishop Welby has gone, thank the Lord.

Perhaps the Anglican Church will now appoint a leader that believes in Christian values?

A bishop that wants to stop the boats and end wokeism obviously.

He was overlooked for Manchester United manager as well.

Did no-one ask him to stand in for Camilla during her recent chest infection?

Has he been approached to be England defence coach before the Bokke game?

Don't be ridiculous, caning was legal and above-board at the time, if deplorable by today's standards. What Smyth did went far beyond that.
