General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

Donald's victory is a crushing defeat for the "global elite", says Old Etonian, international hedge fund millionaire, and member of the landed gentry, Jacob Rees-Mogg

Lembit Öpik says the BBC haven't broadcast one single neutral, or pro-Trump, report since his victory and unless BBC can and he's going to seek a "legal perspective on their reportage of Trump in the context of the BBC Charter"

According to GB News, common sense says Lammy must go immediately as Trump is a man that never forgets.
Also if Starmer loves Britain, he will immediately ask Nigel Farage to facilitate the relationship so the UK prospers. Starmer has to put country before political scoring.

One might think that Lemby Babes, as a sometime Liberal Democrat, would be pretty viscerally opposed to everything Trumpian.

However, some of us remember when he was our Lib Dem councillor in Newcastle and ran a bullying campaign against one of his neighbours via the local Lib Dem newsletter (the "Door of Shame").

So, not a surprise that he comes out with this sort of thing. Twunt.

Apparently Trump is going to get rid of the Chagos deal and return them to the UK. He will reverse Starmer's treason in giving a\way British territory to China.

That the treaty returning the islands is between the UK and Mauritius and nothing to do with the USA is beside the point.

Also, does anyone really believe Mauritius has defence treaties with India and isn't actually an ally of China?
Maybe he can get us India back too. Or Malaya. How about Rhodesia? Ireland? Take your pick. He can do it all on day 1. You just have to believe.

The Lib Dems Ed Davey seems to be the only British politician party leader - apart from Caroline Lucas who has stepped down as Green party leader anyway - to stand up and protest against Trump. I get that Starmer and Lammy being in government have to be, shall we say, diplomatic and statesmanlike about the catastrophe world event and the moron Badenoch already right up Trump's arse as if he would even care who the opposition leader was, but I am impressed by Davey, when I wasn't before,

Well give us a link to the quote and whose saying rather than these frankly trollish posts.

How about a British Member of Parliament commenting on the telegraph story that Senior Republicans have cast doubt on the deal and Farage is 'voicing concern and criticism of the deal' to the Trump team?

Trump’s election is already doing more good for British interests across the world than the actual British Government…

A quick skim through Twitter will show others claiming that Trump will scupper the treaty because it gives China a chance to build a base next to the US base because Mauritius will jump in to the China camp.

Nigel was also waffling about it on GB News. He's going to get Trump to tell Starmer not to do it.

Strange that so many that cheered for Brexit because it would give us our sovereignty back are eager for a foreign leader to tell us what to do.

That criticism was already voiced before Trump had anything to do with it.

Yes but the old administration was keen on it. Now Trump is in power and listens to Nigel he will order the UK and Mauritius to scrap the deal.

Trump as US President will have a say in the jointly US-UK leased island of Diego Garcia (highly secretive military base) but the US president has no jurisdiction to interfere with the binding Treaty between the UK and Mauritius, It is Diego Garcia which is the island of interest and that is still in British/US hands and will be for the coming future.

Ben Habib one of the big sovereignty, take back control and brexit shouters

Ben Habib
@benhabib6

The only thing that’s in the national interest is for @UKLabour and @Keir_Starmer to feel the full pressure of a Trump administration.

There is no benefit for the UK in broking a deal to keep Labour out of trouble.

Labour must bend or be broken

It seems a lot of the shouting crowd on the right want Trump to punish the UK to 'break' the Labour government and force Starmer to resign and call an election.

Madness.

What I found disturbing, far more than the ramblings on Musk's online madhouse is the way some British newspapers seemed almost admiring of a convicted felon, adulterer, fraudster and insurrectionists has managed to become President again. I fear greatly that they will be only too happy to side with Trump against our own government.

Plus the deal allows the US to keep it's base on Diego Garcia. Why spoil a good thing?

Yes, yes, I know T****y is stupid enough to do it, but unless enough of his cronies are being bribed by China it'll just be kept off his radar.
